An atomizing burner and corresponding method for turning an atomizing burner from an ON state to an OFF state. The burner has independently controllable flows of atomizing air, combustion air, and fuel flow, the burner in the ON state having flow values of burner parameters including flow of atomizing air, flow of combustion air, and fuel flow. The method includes: changing, in response to an OFF instruction, flow of at least one of the flow of atomizing air, combustion air and/or fuel to a lower non-zero value; first discontinuing, after a first period of time since the changing, flow of fuel and flow of atomizing air; maintaining, for a second period of time since the first period of time, flow of combustion air; second discontinuing, after the maintaining, flow of combustion air; wherein the maintaining prevents buildup of excess heat inside the burner during the transition to the OFF state.

Atomization burner with flexible fire rate

A burner with a flame detector is provided. An atomizing chamber has an aperture. A flame tube is in front of the atomizing chamber, adapted to direct combusting fuel introduced by the atomizing chamber along an interior of the flame tube. A photodiode circuit is located behind the atomizing chamber. A filter is adapted to filter out signals from the photodiode outside of a predetermined bandwidth. Light from combusting fuel in the flame tube reaches the photodiode through the aperture. The output of the filter indicates the presence or absence of the flame in the flame tube based on at least whether enough light received and converted by the photodiode has a flicker rate within the predetermined bandwidth.

System and method for detecting flame within a burner

A mobile kitchen comprises a housing disposed atop one or more wheel axles and a plurality of appliances disposed within the housing. Each appliance is heated by combustion of a distillate fuel. One or more air channels are disposed about each of the appliances, such that each air channel substantially isolates excess heat from combustion of the distillate fuel from a workspace within the housing. One or more first air blowers are associated with the air channels, and each is adapted to force air through the air channels and vent the excess heat to the exterior of the housing. One or more second air blowers are coupled to the housing, and each second air blower is adapted to vent a predetermined volume of air from within the workspace at least once per minute.

Mobile kitchen

A modular cooking apparatus is provided. A base unit is configured to direct heat to a recess, the recess having a ledge therein configured to receive a stockpot. A griddle has a top griddle cooking surface, and a downward extending wall configured to engage the recess of the base unit. An oven has a substantially open bottom, and is configured to engage the top griddle cooking surface of the griddle, where the griddle cooking surface acts as the heat source for the oven. The base unit individually defines a stockpot cooker configuration, a combination of the griddle mounted on the base unit defines a griddle configuration, and a combination of the griddle mounted on the base unit and the oven mounted on the griddle defines an oven configuration.

Modular portable cooking system

A burner is provided. The burner includes an air compressor, an atomizing head having an air orifice, first and second fuel tanks, the first fuel tank being located at least partially below the atomizing head, and the second fuel tank being located at least partially above the atomizing head, a first fluid pathway connecting the air compressor to the air orifice of the atomizing head, a second fluid pathway having a first end configured to receive air from the air compressor, and a second end extending into the first fuel tank, a third fluid pathway connecting from the first fuel tank to the second fuel tank, and a fourth fluid pathway connecting the secondary fuel tank to a distribution point above the atomizing head. The second and third fluid pathway define at least a portion of a bubble pump. The burner is configured to use air from the air compressor to both (a) deliver fuel to the atomizing head, and (b) atomize the delivered fuel at the atomizing head.

Fuel burner

A flame tube for a liquid fuel burner is disclosed. The liquid fuel burner includes a fuel atomizer directing atomized fuel into the flame tube and an igniter disposed within the flame tube to ignite the atomized fuel. The flame tube comprises an outer wall and an inner wall disposed about the outer wall to define an air passage therebetween. At a discharge end of the flame tube, the outer and inner walls are conjoined to form an annular surface, the annular surface being perforated. Preferably, the annular surface is perforated in an evenly distributed pattern.

A convection oven is disclosed. The convection oven includes an indirect heating chamber and a housing forming both an oven chamber and a circulation path between the oven chamber and the indirect heating chamber. An air circulator is adapted to circulate air through the circulation path. A fuel burner is adapted to generate heat, and heat from the fuel burner is transferred to the indirect heating chamber through a heat exchange interface.

A griddle cooking system is disclosed. A heating block includes a heat plenum and a plurality of heat release chambers fluidically coupled to the heat plenum. Each of the heat release chambers includes a chamber opening onto a first side of the heating block. A griddle is disposed opposite the first side of the heating block and includes a cooking surface opposite an under surface. A heat distributor is disposed between the under surface and the heating block. The heat distributor includes a plurality of heat diffusers, each being disposed over one of the chamber openings, a plurality of heat deflectors disposed about each heat diffuser, each heat deflector being positioned at an angle relative to the under surface, and an exhaust port.

Griddle cooking system

An improved tray ration heating system includes a reservoir. A heat exchanger transfers heat to the reservoir. A firebox at one end of the reservoir has an opening to receive a burner flame tube. The firebox delivers heated gasses from the burner flame tube along the underside of the reservoir to an opposite end of the reservoir. A main channel along the reservoir includes baffles which produce a tortuous path and introduce turbulence to the hot gasses. First and second channels adjacent to the main channel redirect hot air exiting the main channel, and third and fourth channels direct hot gasses exiting the first and second channels towards the opposite end of the reservoir. An exhaust channel extends along a vertical wall of the reservoir to an exhaust opening. The exhaust channel has baffles for displacing hot gasses across the vertical wall. An insulated outer liner supports the reservoir and heat exchanger.

Tray ration heating system

A field sanitation unit provides multiple compartments forming separate sinks. The multiple compartments are heated via a channel located on the underside of the trough, having at one end thereof a firebox. The firebox receives a flame tube from a burner, and supplies hot gases through the firebox to a channel running the length of the trough. By providing baffles within the channel, it is possible to redirect the hot gases laterally, thereby controlling the temperature of each sink.
