A circular suction outlet assembly is provided for use in swimming pools, spas, and the like, which includes a sump body having a central stem which forms an annular space within the sump body, and a nozzle which communicates with the annular space to convey water to the swimming pool drain circuit. A circular, domed-shaped cover is removeably fitted to the top of the sump body. Safety features of the suction outlet assembly include openings in the cover arranged to allow a bather to safely break a seal formed between a body part and the cover. In the event the cover becomes separated from the sump body, the annular space and the central stem also inhibit the insertion and entrapment of human body parts in the sump body.

An elongated suction outlet assembly is provided for use in swimming pools, hot tubs and the like. The suction outlet assembly includes an elongated sump having at least one longitudinal, raised island extending upwardly from inside the sump, and an elongated cover engaging the sump. Safety features of the suction outlet assembly are designed to inhibit human entrapment and thereby reduce the related risk of serious injury or death. The cover is long enough to prevent a bather's body from covering and blocking all of the openings therein, and thereby avoids the creation of a dangerous entrapping force. In the event the cover becomes separated from the sump, the raised island(s) provides a back-up safety feature by preventing a bather's access to the suction outlet nozzle via narrow axial flow channels, thereby virtually eliminating the risk of limb entrapment.

A roll grooved pipe is provided on its inner surface with a hydrofoil surface providing a transition between the inner surface of the pipe and the radially innermost portion of a radially inwardly extending step formed in the inner wall of the pipe by the cold rolling of the groove in the pipe.

A lined pipe has a continuous impervious coating of an elastomer extending along the inner periphery of the pipe and along the radial end surfaces thereof, and a portion thereof extending over the outer surface of the pipe which progressively decreases in thickness to zero thickness at a position underlying a sealing lip of an elastomeric gasket to be associated with the lined metal pipe.

A quick connect branch connector includes a saddle to which one end of a spring clip is hingedly connected, a traction device being provided at the opposite end of the spring clip for cooperation with the saddle, whereby the spring clip can be placed under tensile hoop stress in encircling relation with a pipe.

A metering sight glass is provided by a body of a transparent glass-like material having its ends polished to provide opposite viewing faces, the body being provided intermediate its length with dual axially aligned transverse passages, one of which provides a metering orifice, and the other of which provides a cavitation chamber positioned adjacent the metering orifice.

A hingeable segmented pipe coupling includes dual or plural coupling segments which are hingeable relative to each other in the absence of transverse hinge pins, at least one pair of bolting pads including arcuate surfaces which roll with respect to each other, and each of which includes a fulcrum for engagement with a headed securing member associated with those bolting pads. In preferred embodiments, the bolting faces of the bolting pads are contoured to prevent rotational movement of the coupling segments about the axis of the securing member.

A plumbing fitting is formed integrally with a quick connect coupling, the coupling having a recessed shank portion permitting a locknut and a gasket receiving collar to be assembled onto a threaded shank of the coupling by passing them over a saddle of the coupling the plumbing fitting being connected to a pipe wall by the clamping cooperation between the saddle and collar.

A segmented coupling for use in sealing adjacent pipe ends includes coupling segments having bolting pads at their ends, the ends of the coupling segments including inclined end faces for cooperation with correspondingly inclined end faces of an adjacent coupling segment to produce self-adjustment of the coupling and rigid clamping of the pipe ends upon tightening down of the coupling.
