Provided herein are solutions to automated material handling comprising systems that allow automated 'each pick handling' without requiring the complexity of robotic grasping. Numerous examples of pre-configurable and reconfigurable transport containers, partitioning devices, and automated container configuration stations are described in addition to methods of use and associated material handling systems that utilize such containers. Further described are containers that are individually configured or customized according to specific lot sizes to more efficiently and optimally contain, store and distribute articles as a component of a picking system. Configurable containers or 'totes' may be customized on a per-order basis to create optimally configured containers that maximize the use of space in a container, on a single-item-per-space basis, regardless of item quantity, size or volume, by customizing the size of each space within a container or tote. Still further, each containment area comprises a releasable surface that allows for picking of an item by utilizing gravity in lieu of a robotic gripper.

Automated item handling with reconfigurable totes

A system and method is provided for improving the visibility of hair on the skin surface, in a region that is bloodied or bruised, and potentially expanding the candidate pool of the hair grafts to be selected for harvesting. The system uses a light source comprising at least two emitters and the method comprises controlling the contrast between the image of the blood and the image of the skin surface. The method of the present invention may be implemented with various hair harvesting and transplantation systems, including manual, partially automated and fully automated systems.

System and method for selecting follicular units for harvesting

An apparatus for centering and gripping semiconductor wafers. A solenoid is used to actuate two or three curved contacts. Power to the solenoid, and position information from the solenoid is transmitted along a pair of wires. To center the wafer, the solenoid is actuated and the contacts move radially towards the center of the wafer. The contacts grip the edge of the wafer and a pulse-width-modulation signal is used to determine solenoid position as a function of back electromotive force value or waveform. During handling, the contacts hold the wafer such that the wafer does not move relative to the apparatus.
