An electronic device has an operating mode and an energy saving standby mode. The electronic device includes an input-side antenna element for receiving a signal carrying information, a receiving unit for processing the basic information carried on the signal, a voltage supply unit for providing the supply voltage required for operation, and a switching unit for switching between the operating mode and the standby mode. First, to minimize the current being drawn in the standby mode, and second to ensure quick and reliable switching from the energy saving standby mode to the operating mode as required, it is proposed that the signal carrying the information includes a number of modulated frequency bands. At least one frequency band is intended for the basic information to be processed by the receiving unit. The other frequency band contains wake-up information for actuating the switching unit.

An integrated semiconductor circuit having a number of circuit units which are driven by a clock signal and can be operated both in parallel and in series is provided. A connection supplying the clock signal is connected to the clock input of the respective circuit units via respective controllable switching devices. The control inputs of the switching devices are connected to an output of a random signal generator, so that a circuit unit is operated in parallel or in series with one or more of the other circuit units on the basis of the random signal. A method of operating an integrated semiconductor circuit is also provided.

Clocked integrated semiconductor circuit and method for operating such a circuit

The flat mount assembly, or transponder, has at least one semiconductor chip that is connected to an antenna for interchanging data and power with an electronic apparatus. The antenna is formed of two electrical conductors. A conductive layer is formed on the mount in overlapping relationship with the electrical conductors of the antenna. The overlapping conductive layer results in greater capacitive coupling between the electronic apparatus and the flat mount assembly.

A contactless data transmission system having a transponder and a write/read station, between which data can be exchanged by a HF signal. The transponder includes a receiver unit having a receiving interface for accepting the HF signal and having an output terminal providing a data signal formed from the HF signal. The receiver unit has means for receiving and processing at least two differently modulated and/or encoded HF signals. The transponder also includes a processing unit having a first input terminal that is connected to the output terminal of the receiver unit. The transponder also includes a detection unit for providing a control signal dependent on the performance of the received HF signal. The receiver unit and/or the processing unit can be controlled or driven dependent on the control signal.

Contactless data transmission system and method for contactless data transmission

A data carrier, in particular a smart card, is described and has at least one transmitting/receiving antenna and also a rectifier circuit connected downstream thereof and serving for providing a supply voltage for at least one circuit unit. A voltage regulating circuit is connected in parallel with the supply voltage terminals of the circuit unit. The voltage regulating circuit has an output at which a signal proportional to a regulating signal of the voltage regulating circuit can be tapped off. This output is connected to the control input of a controllable clock signal generator, which provides the clock signal for the at least one circuit unit.

Data carrier with regulation of the power consumption

A data carrier, in particular a chip card, includes a first logic circuit, a contactless interface circuit, at least one coil in which a signal is induced, a controllable switching element, contacts for receiving at least one DC supply voltage, a clock signal, and a data signal, and a second logic circuit. The coil is connected to the first logic circuit through the contactless interface circuit, which obtains from the induced signal the DC supply voltage, the clock signal and the data signal corresponding to a modulation of the induced signal. The contacts are connected to the first logic circuit and have at least one supply-voltage contact receiving the DC supply voltage and a clock-signal contact receiving the clock signal. The supply-voltage contact is connected to the first logic circuit through the switching element. The input side of the second logic circuit is connected to the clock-signal contact and the output side is connected to a control input of the switching element.

Data carrier for operation with and without contacts

The power supply device has a temporary energy store, a main energy store, and a switching device. The switching device has three switching states. The temporary energy store is connected in the first switching state to a power supply input and is connected in the second switching state to the main energy store, which is connected to a power supply output. An energy discharge device is connected to the temporary energy store in the third switching state of the switching device which follows directly the second switching state.

A data carrier includes at least one coil for the contactless reception of amplitude-modulated signals. A rectifier circuit is connected downstream of the coil. A circuit configuration processes and/or stores data. A supply-voltage control circuit is connected in parallel with the circuit configuration. A current measuring device acts as an amplitude demodulator and is disposed between the coil and the voltage-supply control circuit.

Data carrier for the contactless reception of amplitude-modulated signals

A circuit configuration for receiving an OOK-modulated signal, in particular for use in a data carrier of an identification system. The configuration has a demodulator circuit, a decoding circuit that is connected downstream of the latter and a sequential control for controlling in particular the reception, demodulation and processing of received data. A switching element that is driven by the sequential control is disposed between the demodulator circuit and the decoding circuit. An input of the switching element is connected to the output of the demodulator circuit and a first output of the switching element being connected to the input of the decoding circuit. The switching element has a second output that is connected to the reset input of the circuit configuration.

Circuit configuration for manipulation-protected reception of an OOK-modulated signal

A method for demodulating a voltage which has been ASK modulated by changing the amplitude between a low level and a high level, in particular for use during contactless data transmission from a card reader/writer to a smart card, is described. The method is distinguished, in that, in an initialization phase, a first mean value is produced from the high voltage level and a stored partial voltage derived therefrom in order to detect a change to a low voltage level. The change to the low voltage level represents a start value and is detected by a subsequent comparison of the modulated voltage with the first mean value. In a subsequent demodulation phase, a second mean value is produced from the detected low voltage level and the high voltage level in order to demodulate the modulated voltage by comparing the modulated voltage with the second mean value.

Method for ASK demodulation, and ASK demodulator

A data carrier, such as a smart card, has a coil for contactless reception of data and energy and for contactless transmission of data. A logic circuit processes the received, demodulated and decoded data. A first demodulator for demodulating received 100%-ASK-modulated signals and a second demodulator for demodulating received ASK-modulated signals with a modulation depth of less than 100% are provided. The second demodulator is triggered by the first demodulator in such a way that on reception of a 100%-ASK-modulated signal, it is deactivated by the first demodulator.

Data carrier for contactless reception of data and energy, and a method of operating such a data carrier

The invention concerns a process and a connecting arrangement for producing a chip card, wherein a semiconductor chip on a module is fitted in an opening in a card carrier with the attainment of an electrical and mechanical connection. In accordance with the invention, in place of connections which were hitherto necessary involving a force-locking relationship and/or involving the materials being bonded together, recourse is made to inductive and/or capacitive coupling between the module and the IC-card. For that purpose the module and the card correspondingly have coils and/or capacitive coupling surfaces for signal transmission purposes.

Method and connection arrangement for producing a smart card

A data transmission circuit having a station and a response circuit. The station has an amplitude demodulator as well as a primary coil with a signal generator for producing an alternating magnetic field at a carrier frequency. The response circuit has a secondary coil as well as an amplitude modulator for influencing a load on the secondary coil, and the amplitude modulator is configured such that the alternating magnetic field can be modulated with a data signal. Particularly when the data transmission circuit is mass-produced, situations frequently occur in which the data signal modulated onto the alternating magnetic field by the response circuit can no longer be reconstructed at the station end. The object of the invention is thus to provide a data transmission circuit of this generic type, which always operates reliably. According to the invention, the response circuit has a phase modulator for influencing the electrical characteristics of the secondary coil. The amplitude modulator and/or the phase modulator being configured such that it or they can be driven, in particular, by at least one activation signal.

Data transmission circuit having a station and a response circuit

A method for transmitting data between a terminal and a portable data carrier over a wire-free electromagnetic transmission link using a carrier signal which is 100% ASK-modulated in accordance with the data. The carrier signal serving as a clock signal for the portable the data carrier. The significance of an item of data is determined by a position of a shift keying point in the carrier signal within a time slot. The information content of the shift keying point corresponds to a number of N bits, N being greater than or equal to 2. The significance of the N bits is defined by a position of the shift keying point within 2.sup.N possible positions within the time slot. At the start or at the end of a time slot there is a zero time period in which no shift keying point which is assigned to the data to be transmitted occurs, in order to avoid an unacceptably long loss of the carrier signal.

Method for transmitting data between a terminal and a portable data

A chip card includes a semiconductor chip that contains at least one memory. In order to supply energy to the chip and to provide for bi-directional data transmission from and to the chip, both contacts and a device for contactless data transmission are provided. A triggerable switch device which is provided on the chip connects the memory either to the contacts or to the device for contactless data transmission as a function of a state of an output signal of a logic circuit connected to at least a voltage supply contact. The switch device assumes a position of repose when it is not triggered and in that position it connects the memory to the device for contactless data transmission, while only upon application of a voltage to the supply voltage contact, triggered by the logic circuit, does it connect the contacts to the memory.
