A system and method is provided for detecting spurious frequency oscillations within Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal distribution networks. Power levels of Radio Frequency signals within a GNSS signal distribution network are measured or detected to exceed a threshold and compared to levels known to exceed the GNSS signals level of a properly operating system. A system and method is provided for disabling the conditions enabling spurious frequency oscillations when such conditions are detected.

Detecting an oscillation condition in a GNSS distribution system

Methods for activating operations of a communication device coupled to an external communication bus include detecting a communication event on the external communication bus at a wake up circuit while a host controller coupled to the external communication bus is in an inactive state. An interrupt signal is provided to a processor of the communication device that is operating using a first clock signal running at a first clock rate from a first clock responsive to detection of the communication event by the wake up circuit. A clock enable signal is provided from the processor of the communication device, responsive to the interrupt signal, to a second clock in an inactive state. The second clock is coupled to a second circuit of the communication device separate from the processor of the communications device. Active state operations of the second clock are initiated to generate a second clock signal at a second clock rate greater than the first clock rate responsive to the clock enable signal. Operation of the host controller are initiated responsive to active state operations of the second clock.

Methods, devices and circuits for activating a communication device connected to an external bus

A wireless mobile terminal for a wireless communication system comprises a wireless transceiver, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, wherein the wireless transceiver and the GPS receiver share a frequency reference signal. The frequency reference signal can be multiplied by an integer multiple to create a first local oscillator for a signal conversion to an intermediate frequency for signal processing of the GPS signal. In addition, the frequency reference signal can also be divided into a lower frequency to create a second local oscillator for a conversion to a second intermediate frequency. The frequency reference signal can also be divided to create a frequency necessary for other signal processing, such as an analog-to-digital converter sampling signal at the GPS receiver. The frequency reference signal can be taken from different places within the frequency synthesis mechanism of the wireless transceiver. For example, in one embodiment the frequency reference signal is a reference oscillator signal, in another embodiment the frequency reference signal is a radio frequency signal, and in yet another embodiment the frequency reference signal is a radio frequency control signal. Frequency error can be removed from the frequency reference signal by locking to a base station carrier.

Electromagnetic shielding devices are provided that can be easily modified in shape and configuration to facilitate electronic device development. An electronic substrate includes a surface and a ground trace extending along the surface to define a perimeter of an area of the electronic substrate to be shielded. A plurality of electrically conductive block members are electrically secured to the ground trace in adjacent relationship. An electrically conductive cover is electrically secured to a top face of each of the block members to overlie the area of the electronic surface to be shielded.

Wireless mobile terminals include a GPS Radio Frequency (RF) receiver and a wide bandwidth radiotelephone RF receiver having bandwidth that is at least half as wide as the GPS RF signal chip frequency. The wireless mobile terminals also include a shared Intermediate Frequency (IF) section that is responsive to both the GPS RF receiver and to the wide bandwidth radiotelephone RF receiver. A demodulator such as a CDMA despreader is responsive to the shared IF section. Thus, common circuitry may be provided except for the separate GPS RF receiver and wide bandwidth radiotelephone RF receiver. Low cost manufacturing and high efficiency operations may thereby be provided.

An antenna structure includes a center feed dipole antenna having first and second radiating sections that extend along a substrate from a center feed point. A feed section is electrically coupled to the center feed point. The feed section includes a radio frequency input line and a ground line extending along the substrate adjacent one another. A balun extends along the substrate between the first radiating section and the ground line. The first radiating section, the radio frequency input line, the ground line and the balun preferably extend along the substrate in parallel. A tuning shunt may also be provided across the balun for dual band operation. Accordingly, compact dual band antenna structures including baluns may be provided.

A method and apparatus for initializing a radio transmission apparatus comprising a voltage control oscillator, a phase lock loop, and a power amplifier is disclosed so as to avoid generating unwanted interference in neighboring radio channels. First, the voltage control oscillator is enabled and the phase locked loop is switched from a narrow band mode to a wide bandwidth mode to give faster settling time and reduced overshoot. The power amplifier is then smoothly ramped up to a final power level. Finally, the phase locked loop is switched from the wide bandwidth mode to the narrow bandwidth mode after the power amplifier has substantially reached the final power level.
