A gasket comprising a perforated steel body and a rubber sealing member disposed thereon. The gasket body has a plurality of bolt holes therethrough and at least one rubber compression limiter, disposed upon the body, so as to limit compression of the sealing member. The limiter has a relatively large area and small height in comparison to the sealing member and serves to protect the sealing member from overcompression.

Gasket

A cylinder head or manifold gasket assembly including a gasket body having fluid passage openings formed therein, with molded rubber grommets mounted in the openings. The openings and grommet bodies may be any predetermined peripheral matching shape. Oppositely disposed pairs of recesses are formed in the gasket body adjacent each opening on each side of the gasket body, with the centerlines of the respective pairs being at right angles to each other. Oppositely disposed pairs of mounting tabs are formed outwardly of the grommet body adjacent the respective end faces thereof so as to mount in the respective recesses, thereby eliminating the need for adhesive or mechanical clinching at assembly.

Engine gasket assembly

A head gasket assembly disposed between a head having at least one combustion chamber therein and a cylinder block having at least one cylinder therein with the combustion chamber located at least partially outside the diameter of the cylinder and with the head including a chamber insert therein. The head gasket includes a metal core having resilient fiber on opposite surfaces thereof. A metal flange which is U-shaped in cross section engages the metal core about the cylinder opening and includes an integral extension on one side of the metal core for engaging the chamber insert so as to perfect the seal thereunder.

Gasket assembly

A gasket assembly including a metal core member having spaced parallel first and second faces with an annular cylinder bore opening therein. The core member includes an offset portion extending about the periphery of the opening. The offset portion has a first surface raised above one face of the core member and a second surface recessed below the other face of the core member. The offset portion is integrally formed with the remainder of the core member and is connected thereto through sections which have shear stresses therein. In one embodiment a U-shaped shell member is disposed about the core member and the offset portion therein and layers of compressible paper-like material are disposed on opposite sides of the core member extending from the U-shaped shell member. In another embodiment an annular skirt is integral with and extends perpendicularly from one leg of the U-shaped shell member. The shear stresses in the core member at the extremities of the offset portion provide compressive strengths heretofore unobtainable.
