A light meter for detecting two or more different wavelengths of light and methods for determining whether a light source configured to emit light at two or more dominant wavelengths is working properly. The inventive light meter includes a housing, two or more receiving means for receiving light energy emitted by an external light source wherein each receiving means is configured to receive light energy of a desired wavelength, detecting means for detecting and measuring light energy received by the receiving means, and display means for providing a visual indication of the existence and intensity of one or more wavelengths of light energy received by the receiving means.

Light meter for detecting and measuring intensity of two or more wavelengths of light

A dental curing light including an elongate wand having a proximal end and a distal end, a plurality of LEDs disposed at or near a distal end of the elongate wand and a printed circuit board for mounting the plurality of LEDs. The LEDs include a main through mount LED and a plurality of surface mount LEDs positioned around the main through mount LED. The main LED is through mounted relative to the printed circuit board such that the power connections of the main through mount LED are made through a hole or holes in the printed circuit board. The power connections of the main through mount LED are made on an opposite surface of the printed circuit board relative to the 'top' surface to which the surface mount LEDs are mounted.

Dental curing light with specially arranged LEDs

A dental curing device includes an elongate wand housing having proximal and distal ends, a light source disposed at the distal end, electronic circuitry at least partially disposed within the wand housing between the proximal and distal ends, and a heat sink. The light source may comprise one or more LEDs. The heat sink comprises a metallic heat sink portion adjacent to the light source and extending partially through the wand housing, and a polymer-based heat sink portion comprising a thermally conductive polymer-based material adjacent to the metallic heat sink portion. The polymer-based heat sink portion may comprise an epoxy-based resin that at least partially surrounds the electronic circuitry. The polymer-based heat sink portion advantageously extends through a portion of the wand housing designed to be gripped by the user when the dental curing light is in use.

A dental curing light comprises an elongate hollow wand housing having a proximal first end, a distal second end, a light source disposed at the distal second end of the wand housing, and a heat sink disposed at least partially within the wand housing. The heat sink is in contact with the light source, and comprises a plurality of layers or regions comprising different materials. A first layer or region comprises a first material having a higher thermal conductivity than that of a second layer or region, while the second layer or region comprises a second material having a specific heat greater than that of the first layer or region.

Heat sink for dental curing light comprising a plurality of different materials

A heat sink for a dental light-curing device comprises three mounting surfaces that are each configured for mounting a light source, such as an LED or LED array, which is capable of generating light suitable for curing light-curable compounds. The mounting surfaces are configured with a geometric arrangement in which one of the mounting surfaces is placed nearer to the tip of the heat sink than either of the remaining two mounting surfaces, which are placed adjacent to the first mounting surface and are spaced an equal distance away from the tip of the heat sink. This arrangement generally minimizes the heat that is generated by the LEDs at the tip of the heat sink and expedites the diffusion of heat from the LEDs.
