A system is disclosed that includes a detector and a combination of lenses and mirrors as imaging optics configured to provide for block by block compressive sensing of an imaged scene with the block by block determined by a plurality of shift-invariant masks to produce an image of the scene of the detector. A resolution of the image through the combination of lenses and mirrors is provided at the detector greater than a resolution capability of the detector at the detector. Another system and a method are also disclosed.

System and method for providing compressive infrared imaging

An optical system that includes a reconfigurable phase-change material (PCM) layer that includes a plurality of individually controllable pixel areas. Each individually controllable pixel area is variable between a first refractive index and a second refractive index. The PCM layer is configured to pass radiation incident on the PCM layer in accordance with a first mask pattern through the PCM layer in a downstream direction. A PCM controller is configured to control the plurality of individually controllable pixel areas to have respective refractive indices in accordance with the first mask pattern.

Reconfigurable phase change material masks for electro-optical compressive sensing

A method and device for obtaining information from a scene. A beam of photons associated with a scene is separated into a plurality of photon sub-beams. At least two photon sub-beams are optically encoded to generate at least two corresponding encoded photon sub-beams. Each encoded photon sub-beam is encoded based on a corresponding encoding function. The encoded photon sub-beams are combined to generate a combined photon beam. A detection device detects the combined photon beam to generate image data. The image data is decoded based on the plurality of encoding functions to generate a plurality of sub-images. Each sub-image corresponds to one of the at least two photon sub-beams of the plurality of photon sub-beams.

Mechanisms for obtaining information from a scene

Variations of the techniques, systems, devices, and methods discussed herein pertain to a pixel-level mask for a photo-detector. Such a mask may have a layer of reconfigurable phase-change material (PCM) configured to vary between a first refractive index and a second refractive index. Such a PCM layer may be divided into individual pixel areas such that each individual pixel area may be set to have the first refractive index or the second refractive index. The PCM layer may be disposed on a photo-detector such that incident radiation detected by the photo-detector must pass through the PCM layer in order to be detected. The mask may also include or otherwise be operably connected to a PCM controller that can control the refractive index of an individual pixel area or a group of pixel areas aggregated into a superpixel.

A passive automatic target recognition (ATR) system includes a range map processor configured to generate range-to-pixel map data based on digital elevation map data and parameters of a passive image sensor. The passive image sensor is configured to passively acquire image data. The passive ATR system also includes a detection processor configured to identify a region of interest (ROI) in the passively acquired sensor image data based on the range-to-pixel map data, and an ATR processor configured to generate an ATR decision for the ROI.

System and method for passive automatic target recognition (ATR)

A target detection system and method is disclosed that uses a trained detection component and an untrained detection component that enhances image data for candidate target detection. The trained detection component separates candidate targets from clutter within the image data using correlation filters trained from an image library. The image library includes target and clutter images that are used to tune the correlation filters. The untrained detection component separates the candidate targets from the clutter by suppressing clutter using a Fourier frequency transform of the image data. Anomalies are detected in the frequency domain, and retained to highlight candidate targets.
