Decorative laminate and method for manufacturing same

A decorative laminate includes a decorative layer and a core layer. The decorative layer is composed of a resin impregnated decorative sheet. The core layer is composed of at least one resin impregnated sheet of core paper. The core paper is impregnated with a resin composed of phenol formaldehyde resin and wood molasses. In this manner, a substantial portion of the resin used to impregnate the core paper is replaced with wood molasses, which results in a reduction of the cost of manufacturing the decorative laminate. The decorative laminate is manufactured by preparing a resin impregnated decorative sheet and preparing at least one resin impregnated core sheet by impregnating a core sheet with a resin composition composed of phenol formaldehyde resin and wood molasses. The decorative sheet and the core sheet are then layered to form a laminate lay-up that is heated and pressed to consolidate and cure the laminate.

A technique is provided for printing an RFID antenna using conductive ink on a substrate and incorporating that substrate as a layer in a decorative surface such as a high pressure decorative laminate. In addition, a technique is provided for incorporating a conductive mesh into a surface, such as a high pressure decorative laminate, to form an RFID shield which prevents stray signals from reaching an RFID antenna. A technique is also provided for integrating both a printed antenna and conductive mesh shield into a single surface, such as a decorative surface, to allow the reading of desired RFID tags while preventing the reading of undesired RFID tags.

A technique is provided for interconnecting an embedded antenna with external circuitry. The antenna may be formed on an intermediate layer of a layered structure, such as a laminate. The interconnection may be made by providing an aperture through the laminate structure and a terminal pad of the antenna, and making a physical connection by means of a fastener or similar structure extending through the laminate structure. A conductive fluid or other intermediary material such as epoxy may be provided between the fastener and the embedded antenna terminal pad. Similar connection may be made by capacitive coupling with a terminal pad on an exterior surface of the laminate structure.

Embedded antenna connection method and system

An article includes a first member shaped and dimensioned for application to a rigid substrate. The first member is a decorative sheet which is adhesively bound to the substrate. The article further includes a polymeric adhesive tape securing the first member to the substrate, wherein the polymeric adhesive tape includes a heat activated, first polymeric adhesive layer which is activated at a first temperature and a heat activated, second polymeric adhesive layer which is opposite the first polymeric adhesive layer and is activated at a second temperature different from the first temperature.

The invention relates to a laminate including a decorative layer, a first resin impregnated core layer, a radiation barrier layer and a second resin impregnated core layer. The laminate prevents the penetration of radiation therethrough and maybe used in the construction of ceiling and wall panels, flooring, furniture, fixtures, cabinet and door cladding, protective screens and other objects which will effectively prevent the passage of radiation from an isolated enclosure.

Radiation shielded laminate

The invention relates to the bonding of a phenolic resin impregnated core and a metal sheet into a high pressure laminate. A binding layer of a styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer is positioned between the core and the metal sheet to ensure bonding of the layers when a lay-up containing the desired layers is heated and pressed.

A magnetically active laminate is disclosed. The magnetically active laminate is composed of a resin impregnated layer bonded to a distinct, magnetically active sheet. A composition and adhesive film of a thermosetting resin and a terpolymer of an &agr;-olefin, carbon monoxide and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic ester monomer, wherein the melt temperature of the terpolymer is less than the set temperature of the thermosetting resin. The film may be applied to a substrate to provide for an adhesive backing. The film may also be utilized to adhesively bond first and second substrates together.

Thin film adhesive, method of making, products made therefrom

A waterproof laminate panel is disclosed. The panel includes a decorative layer and a backing layer. The backing layer is composed of at least one resin impregnated layer bound to a waterproofing layer which substantially prevents the penetration and release of moisture from the panel so as to maintain a constant moisture content within the decorative panel. The resin impregnated layer faces the decorative layer and the waterproofing layer is exposed to an external environment.
