A combination smoke detection device and laser escape indicator provides a primary circuit that electrically connects a power source to a laser. The primary circuit has a smoke detector switch that is operably controlled by a smoke detecting means. When the smoke detecting means detects smoke, it closes the smoke detector switch, thereby activating the laser to produce a laser beam. The laser is mounted on a swivel arm that is pivotally connected to a primary housing, the primary housing being rotatably attached to a base housing. The swivel arm and the primary housing together can be adjusted so that the laser projects the laser beam in a desired direction. When the combination is installed in a structure, the laser is manipulated so that when the laser generates a laser beam, the laser beam directs people to an exit from the structure. The primary circuit is preferably also connected to a siren, so when the laser is triggered, an audible siren is also activated, providing people within the structure with a warning of the fire.

Combination smoke detection device and laser escape indicator

A laser arbor is provided that will display a cutting line on a work piece to be cut by a rotary saw. The laser is operated by a centrifugal switch mounted within the laser arbor along with a laser diode or the like and a battery. Because of the rotation of the laser with the blade and the persistence of the human eye, the moving light spot from the laser appears as a single line, hence it is not necessary as in the prior art to produce light divergence in the plane parallel to the blade plane. For that purpose, it is preferable to employ a light source having a wavelength that lies in a region to which the eye is sensitive, which in practice will typically mean a wavelength in the upper region of the red. Placement of the laser inwardly from the cutting surface of the blade eliminates the danger of any damage occurring to the laser as a result of debris from the cutting process.

Laser arbor

A pressure-biased, temperature sensor means utilizing a cooperating pair of aligned bellows operators in a chamber communicating with a fluid to a reference pressure. One of the bellows is responsive to an elevated temperature of a fluid coolant system and the second bellows, which communicates with the fluid coolant system, is responsive to a decrease in fluid pressure. The aligned bellows cooperate to move a switch actuation means to close a switch thereby completing a signal circuit and energizing a signal means.

Pressure-biased, temperature sensor

A pressure-biased, temperature sensor means utilizing a cooperating pair of aligned bellows operators in a chamber communicating with a fluid system. One of the bellows expanding in response to an elevated temperature of said fluid and the second bellows expanding in response to a decrease in fluid pressure. Both of the bellows operate to move a diaphragm operator to close a switch means in a signal circuit thereby completing the circuit and energizing a signal means.

A pressure-biased, temperature sensor for monitoring a fluid system for either an over-temperature or under-pressure condition. These conditions are sensed by one of two expandable bellows operators which cooperates with the other bellows operator and a lever and fulcrum arrangement to close a switch, completing a signal circuit and energizing a signal means.

The bellows operator expands in response to changes above a predetermined temperature or below a predetermined pressure to complete a signal circuit and energize a signal means.

Means for adding corrosion inhibitor to an engine cooling system utilizing a corrosion detector in contact with the circulating coolant and which is in an electronic circuit to activate a control valve which controls the feeding of corrosion inhibitor solution from a reservoir that is in selective communication with the coolant system. The corrosion detector may be in the form of a probe that measures solution potential or electrical resistance of a metal wire as it corrodes due to the corrosiveness of the coolant. The corrosion inhibitor reservoir is located either in communication with the line between the radiator and coolant reservoir or in a by-pass line parallel with the radiator.

Improved apparatus for measuring the angular deviation from the vertical of the end of the drill string which includes a housing adapted for insertion in the drill string, a pendulum pivotally mounted in the housing and capable of swinging through large angles, and a substantially perfectly balanced catch link pivoted at the same point as the pendulum and normally coaxially aligned with the end of the drill string. Means are provided for coupling the pendulum and catch link together at a preselected angle and for measuring the deflection of the coupled pendulum and catch link from the axis of the end of the drill string so that the angular deviation from the vertical of the end of the drill string may be determined. Means are provided for signalling the measure of the deflection to the surface.

Wide angle inclinometer

A manually operable valve in a power tongs assembly has, in combination therewith, an electro-hydraulic interface module. The interface module comprises an electrically responsive solenoid valve connected in hydraulically parallel path to the manually operated valve. The manually operated valve may be selectively disenabled and the electrically responsive valve simultaneously enabled to permit electrical control of the power tongs assembly.

In a hydraulically powered pipe handling system, a general purpose digital computer is used to control the operation of hydraulically powered racker arms as well as the various auxiliary functions involved in vertical piperacking operations. The manual pipe-racking system (that is, that which is hydraulically powered and under the control of one or more operators) is retained, the computer controlled mode of operation being an alternative system present in the overall design. There is provided to the operator, while the system is in its automatic mode of operation, visual indication of length of drill string, depth of hole, depth of drill bit and composition of the drill string, including number and type of pipe lengths making up the drill string.
