A new polypropylene terephthalate composition is provided. The polypropylene terephthalate is comprised of 1,3-propanediol and terephthalate. The 1,3-propanediol is produced by the bioconversion of a fermentatble carbon source, preferable glucose. The resulting polypropylene terephthalate is distinguished from petrochemically produced polymer on the basis of dual carbon-isotopic fingerprinting which indicates both the source and the age of the carbon.

Method for identifying the source of carbon in 1,3-propanediol

Apparatus and method for on-stream chemical element monitoring wherein a multiplicity of sample streams are flowed continuously through individual analytical cells and fluorescence analyses are performed on the sample streams in sequence, together with a method of controlling the time duration of each analysis as a function of the concomitant radiation exposure of a preselected perforate reference material interposed in the sample-radiation source path.

An acyclic Zeeman effect atomic absorption spectrometer viewing the sample analyzed continuously and simultaneously with two linear orthogonally polarized radiation beams preselected as to wavelength to effectively cancel out, upon logarithmic ratioing of their electrical analogs, the contribution of adulterants to the mass determination of a trace element in analysis and thereafter obtaining the ratio of the integrated value of the monitored sample logarithmic ratio signal with that of a stored standard sample integrated logarithmic ratio signal as a measure of the concentration of trace element present.
