A transmission system for transmitting analog color video signals wherein a cable comprising multiple twisted pairs is employed, and certain of these pairs are coupled to carry selected color signals as a function of the delay provided by particular twist rates. In certain instances, selected signal delay devices are connected in circuit with certain twisted pairs. By such an arrangement, it has been found that relatively long distances between a computer and a monitor may be spanned by relatively low-cost, twisted pair cable commonly used for telephone communications.

Yet since the main module is located remotely, e.g., at a data center ( ), the both security and centralized management are realized using existing hardware and software. The input/output (I/O) module has a relative small footprint and primarily performs input and output operations.

Split computer system including transmission of video data between plural enclosures

A source of analog computer video signals is provided, which source may be a video switch providing a single set of computer video signals from one of a plurality of computers. From the source, the video signals are applied to a transmitter that includes circuitry for developing a pair of balanced video signals from each discrete video signal and applying each signal of the pair of balanced signals to respective conductors of a twisted pair of conductors. At the receiver, each balanced pair of video signals is converted back to a single-ended form. Compensation circuitry is provided for compensating for the length of twisted pair conductors between the transmitters and receivers for each video signal. Horizontal and vertical sync signals are applied via respective buffer amplifiers to another twisted pair of conductors in unbalanced relation.

Extended length differentially driven analog video link

An apparatus, method, and system for providing a computer extender for connecting a computer at a first location to peripherals at a second location. The peripherals are located at distances greater than possible using standard computer cables. A cable coupling the locations and serving as the communication channel is a bundle of four pairs of wires, where three of the pairs provide video. The remaining pair provides for transfer of mouse information, keyboard information, vertical sync, horizontal sync, audio signals, modem signals, asynchronous data, and has a reserve capacity for other information.

Method and apparatus for extending the range between a computer and computer peripherals

A non-inverting amplifier powered by a single polarity of electrical power with respect to a ground potential. Three of these amplifiers, one for each of the three basic colors, feeds three in-line adjacent conductors of a multi-conductor cable and wherein a signal to the center of these conductors is inverted. At the output end of the cable, the originally inverted signal is again inverted, after which all signals are fed to a monitor.

A bidirectional, long-distance open collector link is constructed between a pair of spaced-apart open collector ports, with each of the ports being coupled to one input of a comparator. The other input of the comparator is responsive to a reference voltage and the comparator of the opposite port via an extended conductor. A first diode poled to pass current from the respective port is coupled between inputs of each comparator, and a second diode is coupled in the extended conductor to pass current to the opposite port. As such, when a first port goes LOW, a first comparator operatively associated with that port provides a LOW to the input of the second comparator, causing it to provide a HIGH output and also pulls the second port LOW. The HIGH from the second comparator is used to clamp the first comparator LOW as long as the port asserts a LOW.

A converter for converting VGA color signals to gray scale monochrome signals wherein each of the color signals, red, green, and blue, are processed through a circuit consisting of an emitter-follower, a selected value resistor, and a diode and wherein the outputs of the three circuits are connected together and across a load impedance for an analog monochrome monitor.

A temperature compensated video transmission system including a D.C.-video frequency amplifier for supplying a computer monitor wherein the operating bias for two opposite polarity type transistors are directly coupled collector-to-base, and bias to this coupling is provided through the base-emitter junctions of two serially connected transistors, the base and collectors of these transistors being directly coupled, whereby D.C. drift, with temperature, of the amplifier is prevented.
