A speaker excursion characterizing system for a speaker includes a signal generator configured to generate a signal at a plurality of different amplitudes. The signal may be generated at a plurality of frequencies. An inverse excursion filter has an inverse excursion filter response, receives the signal and applies the inverse excursion filter response and has an output in communication with an amplifier circuit of the speaker. The inverse excursion filter response is an inverse of an excursion filter response of an excursion filter in the amplifier circuit of the speaker.

Acoustic approximation for determining excursion limits in speakers

A mobile computing device includes one or more digital signal processors, each configured to receive a respective digital signal, one or more amplifiers, each configured to receive a respective digital signal, and one or more output generators configured to receive an output of a respective amplifier, and a battery configured to supply power to at least the amplifier(s). The digital signal processors include an intelligent current limiter. The intelligent current limiter is configured to determine a power consumption limit based on a battery voltage of the battery, a battery current limit defined by a battery current budget for operation of at least the amplifiers, and an efficiency of the amplifiers. The intelligent current limiter is configured to determine a predicted power consumption by the amplifiers based on voltages of the digital signals, a gain of each of the respective amplifiers, and an admittance of each of the respective output generators. The intelligent current limiter compares the predicted power consumption with the power consumption limit and adjusts the gain setting(s) of one or more of the digital signal processors based on the comparison prior to supplying the respective digital signals to the amplifiers.

The implementations describe a method and a system to perform the method to reduce buzzing in a speaker by obtaining a signal having an audio content, determining a first value of spectral density of the audio content at a first resonance frequency, the first resonance frequency associated with a mechanical motion of at least one member of a speaker assembly, determining a second value of spectral density of the audio content at a second resonance frequency, the second resonance frequency associated with a port of the speaker assembly, determining, responsive to the first value and the second value, that the signal is to produce buzzing of the speaker at the second resonance frequency, producing a modified signal by limiting spectral density of the audio content at the first resonance frequency, and providing the modified signal to the speaker.

A mobile computing device includes a digital signal processor, a first speaker having a first sensitivity and a second speaker having a second sensitivity, where the second sensitivity is greater than the first sensitivity. The digital signal processor includes an audio signal manager that is configured to receive an audio signal having first and second channel signals, partition the first channel signal into a first high frequency signal and a first low frequency signal, partition the second channel signal into a second high frequency signal and a second low frequency signal, generate a mono low frequency signal based on the first and second low frequency signals, partition the mono low frequency signal into first and second mono low frequency signals based on an excursion limit of the second speaker, generate a first composite channel signal based on the first high frequency signal and the first mono low frequency signal for playback by the first speaker, and generate a second composite channel signal based on the second high frequency signal and the second mono low frequency signal for playback by the second speaker.

Management of low frequency components of an audio signal at a mobile computing device

A mobile device with orientation aware audio mapping capability is disclosed. The mobile device has an aux speaker, a loud speaker, a sensor for device orientation detection, and a processor (or processors) coupled to the sensor and the speakers. Depending on the device orientation, the processor sends a mapped audio output to the speakers. The mapped audio output may be a mono audio signal or a stereo audio signal. The stereo audio output signal may be a stereo audio output signal with a balanced or biased audio power distribution between the aux speaker and the loud speaker.

Orientation aware audio soundstage mapping for a mobile device

A method of reducing power consumed by an audio playback system includes: receiving a signal from a digital audio interface; comparing a sound pressure level (SPL) response of a first frequency band of the signal to a total SPL response of the signal, the first frequency band including frequencies lower than a selected frequency; and attenuating signal components in the first frequency band of the signal based upon the comparison of the SPL response of the first frequency band of the signal to the total SPL response of the signal.

The system and method provide the aforementioned temperature limiting based upon monitoring (e.g., measurement) of an amplifier output signal provided to the speaker. A system for echo cancellation includes a dynamic speaker management (DSM) module, a current/voltage sensing amplifier, a sound pressure level (SPL) model module and an echo canceller. The example DSM module is receptive to a far-end signal and is operative to develop a modified far-end signal and a plurality of parameter outputs. The example current/voltage sensing amplifier is coupled to the modified far-end signal and develops an amplifier output, a voltage (V) parameter output, and a current (I) parameter output. The example sound pressure level (SPL) model module is coupled to the plurality of parameter outputs of the of the DSM module and is operative to develop a predicted SPL. The example echo canceller module is responsive to the predicted SPL and to a near-end signal and operative to develop an echo-canceled output signal.
