The invention relates to a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine (), comprising: at least one cylinder block (), which is connected to at least one cylinder head (); at least one first cooling jacket () in the cylinder block () and at least one second cooling jacket () in the cylinder head (), wherein the first and the second cooling jackets () are arranged in a coolant circuit and are connected to each other with regard to flow; and at least one control element arranged in the coolant circuit. In order to achieve the same flow conditions in the cylinder head in every operating range of the internal combustion engine, the control element according to the invention is formed by a switching device (), which blocks a bypass flow path () far the first cooling jacket () and opens a coolant inlet () of the first cooling jacket () in a first switching position (A) such that in the first switching position (A) the entire coolant is conducted through both cooling jackets () in series, and which blocks the coolant inlet () of the first cooling jacket () and opens the bypass flow path () for the first cooling jacket () in a second switching position (B) such that in the second switching position (B) the entire coolant is conducted only through the second cooling jacket () while the first cooling jacket () is bypassed.

Liquid-cooled internal combustion engine

A liquid-cooled internal combustion engine which includes a cylinder housing for at least one cylinder and at least one cylinder head, with the at least one cylinder in the cylinder housing being enclosed by a cooling jacket and with a bottom partial cooling chamber adjacent to a fire deck and an upper partial cooling chamber which is flow-connected with the same via at least one transfer opening being arranged in the cylinder head which is connected with the cylinder housing, with a coolant outlet which can be connected with a pressure sink originating from the bottom partial cooling chamber. In order to improve cooling, at least one coolant inlet which can be connected with a pressure source opens into the cooling jacket of the cylinder housing and the cooling jacket is flow-connected directly with the upper partial cooling chamber via at least one riser manifold, so that coolant flows in engine operation from the pressure source to the cooling jacket of the cylinder housing and from there to the upper partial cooling chamber of the cylinder head and further via the transfer opening into the bottom partial cooling chamber and from there to the pressure sink.

Liquid-cooled internal combustion

An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder block and a cylinder head, with at least one first cooling jacket () being arranged in the cylinder block and at least one second cooling jacket () being arranged in the cylinder head, and a cooling fluid can flow through the cooling jackets () substantially in the longitudinal direction of the internal combustion engine, and with both the cylinder block and the cylinder head having separate inflows () and outlets () for the cooling fluid which communicate with the respective cooling jacket () in the cylinder block and cylinder head. In order to ensure even cooling especially of thermally loaded regions of the cylinder head, at least one flow transfer () is arranged between the first cooling jacket () of the cylinder block and the second cooling jacket () of the cylinder head.

Internal combustion engine with a cylinder block and a cylinder head

A cylinder head for a multi-cylinder liquid-cooled internal combustion engine having a cooling chamber configuration adjacent to a fire deck which is divided by an intermediate deck essentially parallel to the fire deck into a lower cooling chamber next to the fire deck and an upper cooling chamber adjoining the lower one in the direction of the cylinder axis, the lower and upper cooling chamber communicating with each other via at least one first transfer opening, where at least one first transfer opening is provided in the area of an opening receiving a preferably centrally disposed fuel injection device, where at least one coolant inlet per cylinder (A,B,C), which is preferably located in the fire deck, opens into the lower cooling chamber, at least one coolant outlet departs from the upper cooling chamber, where a lower cooling chamber is associated with each cylinder (A,B,C), the lower cooling chambers of at least two adjacent cylinders (A,B,C) are essentially separated from each other by a partitioning wall, the coolant flow in the lower cooling chamber is essentially transverse to the cylinder head, and where the upper cooling chamber extends over at least two cylinders (A,B,C), the first transfer opening being disposed at a distance (a) from the opening receiving the fuel injection device, and the distance (a) between the openings having a defined minimum.
