Example methods and apparatus to form secure cross-VPN (virtual private network) communication sessions in multiprotocol label switching (MPLS)-based networks are disclosed. An example method comprises sending a first border gateway protocol route advertisement to a first provider edge router associated with a first one of two multiprotocol label switched-based virtual private networks in response to receiving a cross-virtual private network link setup request from an application server, the route advertisement comprising a flow-spec parameter, and the setup request identifying a communication path between two user devices associated with the first and second multiprotocol label switched-based virtual private networks, sending a second border gateway protocol route advertisement to a second provider edge router associated with the second multiprotocol label switched-based virtual private network, and restricting a communication session between the two user devices of the first and second multiprotocol label switched-based virtual private networks to a first protocol for a threshold period of time based on a restriction parameter shared by the communication path.

Methods and apparatus to form secure cross-virtual private network communication sessions

Methods and apparatus to implement voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) phones are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes detecting removal of a first user-replaceable network interface from a first port of a phone, the first network interface to communicate with a gateway using a first VOIP; detecting insertion of a second user-replaceable network interface into the first port of the phone, the second network interface to communicate with the gateway using a second VOIP, the second VOIP being different from the first VOIP; receiving a driver for the second network interface via a second port defined in the housing of the phone, the driver to enable the second network interface to communicate with the gateway using the second VOIP, the driver being received after a boot procedure to initialize the phone; and initializing the second network interface based on the driver.

Methods and apparatus to implement voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phones

A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) device and method of operation of the VoIP device are provided. A local telephone number serving a location of the VoIP device is stored in a database of a VoIP service provider. A fixed address is associated with the local telephone number. The local telephone number is provided to an Automatic Location Information database associated with an emergency response system.

A method of routing telephone calls is disclosed that includes receiving Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) packets at an integrated access device (IAD) from a VoIP remote worker feature server. The IAD communicates with a first private branch exchange (PBX) located at a first location. The VoIP packets are related to a VoIP call intended for a telephone number assigned by a second PBX at a second location.

A system and method for facilitating packetized calls between managed networks are disclosed. In one embodiment of a system incorporating teachings of the present disclosure, a mediation server may be associated with and maintain an information store holding a first collection of connection information for a first plurality of devices associated with a first managed internet protocol network and a second collection of connection information for a second plurality of devices associated with a second managed internet protocol network. The devices may be capable of receiving voice over internet protocol calls and the connection information for a given device may include a unique address and a call receipt rule. In operation, the mediation server may receive a query seeking appropriate connection information for a called device associated with the first managed internet protocol network. In one embodiment, the server may collect the appropriate connection information from the first collection of connection information and initiate communication of the appropriate connection information to an address associated with the received query.

System and method for facilitating packetized calls between managed networks

A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) feature server provides a remote worker feature over a VoIP platform of an IP network. The remote worker feature facilitates an individual, who is assigned a telephone number at his/her home PBX, to receive telephone service from a remote PBX using the same telephone number.
