An article of manufacture and a method are disclosed herein for improving lubricity and wear resistance of a given substrate by applying thereto a composition comprising essentially about 0.001 to about 3.000 weight percent of a composition containing 10 to 100 weight percent of a carboxylate ester, 0 to about 90 weight percent of a tetrafluorethylene telomer, and 0 to about 90 weight percent of an antistatic agent selected from the group consisting of amines, fatty quaternary ammonium compounds, fatty acid esters, phosphate esters and ethoxylated compounds, and about 97.00 to about 99.999 weight percent of a solvent therefor, and removing the volatile solvent to produce a thin, dry coating upon said substrate. The compositions herein disclosed have been found to be most effective as preservatives for coating gramophone or phonograph records which provide marked reduction of record groove wear while substantially minimizing noise and harmonic distortion.

An article of manufacture and a method are disclosed herein for improving lubricity and wear resistance of a given substrate by applying thereto a solution comprising a fluoroalkyl ester and an organic carrier. The compositions herein disclosed have been found to be most effective as preservatives for coating sundry substrates, especially gramophone or phonograph record surfaces whereby there is effected a reduction of record groove wear while substantially reducing the friction between the stylus and the record groove. A preferred composition herein contemplated and disclosed is one comprising a perfluoroalkyl ester of stearic acid and a halogenated hydrocarbon carrier.

An article of manufacture and a method are disclosed herein for improving lubricity and wear resistance of a given substrate by applying thereto a solution consisting essentially of a dialkanolamine and a halogenated hydrocarbon carrier. The composition herein disclosed has been found to be most effective as preservatives for coating sundry substrates, especially gramophone or phonograph record surfaces whereby there is effected a marked reduction of record groove wear while substantially minimizing noise and harmonic distortion. The preferred composition herein contemplated and disclosed is one consisting essentially of a N-alkyl-substituted N,N-dialkanolamine and a halogenated hydrocarbon carrier, said dialkanolamine having the formula:

An article of manufacture and a method are disclosed herein for improving lubricity and wear resistance of a given substrate by applying thereto a composition consisting essentially of low-molecular weight tetrafluoroethylene telomers, an antistatic agent, preferably in the form of a tertiary amine, and a volatile organic solvent, and removing the volatile solvent to produce a thin, dry coating upon said substrate. The compositions herein disclosed have been found to be most effective as preservatives for coating gramophone or phonograph records which provide marked reduction of record groove wear while substantially minimizing noise and harmonic distortion.

Leader strip for motion picture films is described which is composed of a substrate of cellulose acetate or polyester, a gum-removing layer comprising an organic binder selected from the group consisting of cellulose esters, polyurethanes, polyacrylonitrile, copolymers of acrylonitrile and vinylidene chloride, and epoxy resins, a gum-shearing agent of finely divided polymeric particles, said agent being bonded by the organic binder to the substrate, said gum-shearing agent being a member selected from the group consisting of polyesters, polyamides, polyimides and polyolefins, said polymeric particles having a size less than about five mils.
