A system, apparatus, and method for treating, repairing, an aneurysm, preferably an aortic aneurysm, and most preferably, an abdominal aortic aneurysm as described herein. The systems, devices, and methods described herein include a first prosthesis or stent gasket, and at least one second prosthesis for bypassing the aneurysm. The first prosthesis is configured and adapted to accommodate a section of artery upstream of the aneurysm, wherein the section is unsuitable for anchoring a typical first prosthesis.

A removable vascular filter system for blocking micro- and macro-emboli while allowing the continued perfusion of blood comprises a filter membrane positioned on a guidewire, wherein a free end of the membrane sits tightly against the guidewire when the filter membrane is in a collapsed state and wherein the filter has a means for deploying the filter membrane to assume a position substantially normal to the longitudinal axis of the guidewire. The filter membrane is comprised of a fine mesh material which has a pore size capable of blocking emboli while allowing continued blood flow, a preferred embodiment of which comprises regularly spaced, laser-formed holes, and in which the membrane has a scalloped proximal profile.

Vascular filter system

In accordance with the present invention there is provided a pre-cursor stent for positioning within the infrarenal neck, between an abdominal aortic aneurysm and the renal arteries, of a patient to assist in repairing the abdominal aortic aneurysm. The stent designed to be coupled to a graft for directing blood flow. The graft has a distal end for positioning distal to the aneurysm, and a proximal end for positioning proximal to the aneurysm. The precursor stent includes a substantially cylindrical expandable member having a proximal end, a distal end and an interior. The stent further includes a compressible gasket member located within the interior of the expandable member and attached thereto. The compressible member is substantially impervious to water when in a compressed state. In addition, the stent has a means, within the compressible member, for coupling the graft to the gasket member. This is so the coupled device can direct blood flow therethrough, with the gasket member substantially preventing blood from flowing into the aneurysm.

Aortic graft having a precursor gasket for repairing an abdominal aortic aneurysm

A precursor stent for implantation within the body of a patient is utilized in combination with an aortic graft for repairing an abdominal aortic aneurysm. The stent is designed to receive a pair of grafts placed side by side within the interior of the stent. The stent includes a substantially cylindrical and expandable member having a proximal end, a distal end, a longitudinal axis extending therebetween and an interior. The stent further includes an occlusive member attached to the expandable member. The occlusive member at least partially occludes a passageway or stent lumen which extends through the interior of the expandable member extending between its distal end and proximal end. The occlusive member has an opening extending therethrough designed to receive a guidewire for one of the grafts. Therefore, when the guidewire for the other graft is introduced, after deployment of the stent within a body, it will go through the portion of the interior not covered by the occlusive member. This helps to ensure proper side by side placement of the two grafts.

Precursor stent gasket for receiving bilateral grafts having controlled contralateral guidewire access

In accordance with the present invention there is provided a pre-cursor stent for positioning within the infrarenal neck, between an abdominal aortic aneurysm and the renal arteries of a patient to assist in repairing the abdominal aortic aneurysm. The stent is designed to be coupled to a graft for directing blood flow through the aneurysm. The stent is made from a substantially cylindrical self-expanding member having a proximal end, a distal end, a longitudinal axis extending therebetween and an interior. The precursor stent further includes at least two spaced apart longitudinal legs having distal and proximal ends, the proximal ends of the legs attached to the distal end of the member, the legs extending distally from the member, each the leg including a flange adjacent its distal end. Also in accordance with the present invention is an aortic graft, having the above mentioned precursor stent attached thereto when fully deployed. Further in accordance with the present invention is a delivery apparatus for the above described precursor stent.

Stent which is easily recaptured and repositioned within the body

A vascular catheter guidewire comprises a length of wire having a proximal end, a distal end, and a central portion between the ends having a first diameter range. Typically the range of first diameters is quite narrow and within the dimensions of 0.01 and 0.02 inch. Both the distal end and the proximal end of the guidewire catheter each comprise a tip of greater flexibility than the wire of the central portion of the guidewire. The distal end tip and the proximal end tip are each defined by a length of wire which is integral with the central portion of wire and each has a range of diameters that is less than the range of first diameters. Typically, the diameters of the tip portion wires are on the order of 0.006 to 0.008 inch. The proximal end tip is significantly shorter than the distal end tip. The distal end tip is typically of greater flexibility than the proximal end tip. The proximal end tip is used to provide a blunt, flexible tip that does not tear rubber gloves or injure the fingers as the guidewire is manipulated from the proximal end. Nevertheless, because the proximal end tip is stiffer than the distal end tip, it is more capable of supporting a push of the guidewire, without tearing the rubber gloves for desired medical purposes, and it may be used with a torquing device.
