Systems and techniques for monitoring hydration. In one implementation, a method includes measuring an electrical impedance of a region of a subject to generate an impedance measurement result, and wirelessly transmitting the data to a remote apparatus. The probe with which impedance is measured may take the form of a patch adhesively secured to the subject.

Hydration monitoring

The present invention is generally directed to a respiratory delivery system (e.g. an inhaler) used to discharge an appropriate substance therefrom for inhalation by a user. The respiratory delivery system generally has at least one airflow inlet, at least one outlet (e.g., mouthpiece, nasal mask), at least one airflow passage extending therebetween, and at least one ejection actuator for discharging an appropriate substance into the airflow. The respiratory delivery system also generally includes an airflow regulation assembly that can adjust the size of a passage through which substantially all of the airflow is directed to achieve/maintain a certain flow rate through the inhaler.

A caloric energy balance monitor uses calories expended during rest and activity, and calories consumed from food, to compute a predicted change in the user's body fat percentage. The predicted change in body fat percentage is then compared to an actual change in body fat percentage to iteratively compute a correction factor that is used in subsequent measurements of net caloric energy balance.

A disposable cover for an infrared thermometer provides IR window isolation of handling and usage generated forces. The cover comprises a thin sidewall linked to the film window with a collar structure. The collar structure includes one or more characteristics that either isolate the film window from externally applied forces, or develops counter forces in a way that precludes film stretching and other transmission distorting effects. In a preferred embodiment, the probe includes retention ears and the cover includes a rim that cooperatively engages the retention ears. This combination of retention ears and an interlocking rim decreases movement of the cover along the probe axis. The cover of the present invention permits sanitary application of an infrared clinical thermometer without hindering reading accuracy or patient comfort.

An IR thermometer design using multiple sensor outputs for correcting errors induced by variable probe placement in a patient's ear canal. One embodiment of the system uses two or more sensors to create varying fields of view of the tympanic membrane IR emissions. These discrete IR readings are then reconciled by on-board signal processing to provide an accurate, repeatable and relatively position independent temperature reading.

A probe cover for an infrared thermometer has a pleated sheath which fits over the thermometer probe and a base, which is engageable with the probe, is attached to the periphery of the sheath to hold the sheath over the probe. The sheath is made of a thin infrared transparent film and is formed with a window which causes minimal attenuation of infrared emission received by the thermometer.
