The present disclosure relates to corrosion resistant coating compositions, kits and methods of applying the same, for use as fireproofing materials. The corrosion resistant spray applied fire resistant material contains an organic corrosion inhibitors, such as an aldonic acid, benzoic acid, or combinations thereof, to reduce or eliminate corrosion of the underlying substrate.

Corrosion resistant spray applied fire resistive materials

The present disclosure relates to coating compositions, kits, and methods of applying the same, for use with fireproofing materials. The coating compositions are effective to control the drying rate and shrinkage of fireproofing materials. The coating compositions are also able to be applied to fireproofing materials shortly after these materials have been applied to a substrate.

Water-based epoxy formulations for applied fireproofing

Water-based intumescent fireproofing formulations are provided that exhibit excellent fireproofing properties while simultaneously significantly reducing and/or eliminating the potential for VOC release and exhibiting excellent hangability properties. The intumescent fireproofing formulation includes a coalescent that significantly reduces and/or eliminates the potential for VOC release and fiber constituents, e.g., fibers of greater than 0.2 mm in length. Exemplary coalescents have a boiling point of at least 180&#xb0; C. and include bis(2-ethylhexanoate) triethyleneglycol and 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediolmono(2-methylproponate). Intumescent fireproofing formulations are also provided that include clay to further improve performance.

A method for inhibiting corrosion of metals in contact with an aqueous solution comprising adding to the system a corrosion inhibiting amount of one or more polytartaric acid compounds having the generalized formula: ##STR1## wherein each R is independently selected from the group consisting of H and C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, n is less than 4 and the average molecular weight of the mixture corresponds to an average n in the range 1.2 to 3.

Method for inhibiting corrosion of metals using polytartaric acids

A method for treating an aqueous system which contains solid particles of iron (III) oxide is disclosed which comprises adding to the system catechol, hydroquinone, their water soluble salts, and mixtures thereof in an amount effective to disperse or suspend iron (III) oxide particles. The aqueous system should have a pH greater than 7 and have low to moderate hardness.

A composition and method for inhibiting corrosion of ferrous metals in contact with an aqueous solution comprising adding to the system from 0.1 to 500 ppm of an aminohydroxysuccinic acid compound selected from group consisting of compounds of the generalized formulas: ##STR1## wherein R is H or C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, optionally substituted with --OH, --CO.sub.2 H, --SO.sub.3 H or phenyl, C.sub.4 C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, or phenyl which is optionally substituted with --OH, or --CO.sub.2 H, and R' is H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, optionally substituted with --OH or CO.sub.2 H; and ##STR2## wherein R' is as above, and Z is selected from the group consisting of i) --(CH.sub.2).sub.n -- wherein n is an integer from 2 to 10, ii) --(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --X--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 -- wherein X is --O--, --S--, --NR'--; wherein R' is selected from the group consisting of H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, carboxyallkyl, acyl, --C(O)OR'' wherein R'' is C.sub.1 C.sub.6 alkyl or benzyl and ##STR3## wherein R' is as above, ##STR4## wherein Y is H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, --CO.sub.2 H, or --SO.sub.3 H, m is independently 0 or 1 and p is 1 or 2, and ##STR5## wherein R.sub.a and R.sub.b are independently H or C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, Q is H or C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl and S is 0, 1 or 2; t is independently 0, 1, 2 or 3 and q is 0, 1, 2, or 3, and r is 1 or 2; or water soluble salts thereof.

Corrosion inhibitors

A method of comprising iron in an aqueous system comprising adding to the system a copolymer of styrene sulfonic acid and methacrylic acid or its water soluble salt in an amount effective to disperse the iron contained therein.

Method of dispersing iron

A process for preventing or removing calcium and rust scale deposits from surfaces which are in contact with aqueous systems comprising adding to the aqueous system 3,5-bis(di-N,N-(carboxymethyl)aminomethyl)-4-hydroxybenzenesulfonic acid in an amount effective to remove the scale and rust deposits.

Multipurpose scale preventer/remover

The present invention is directed to a method of inhibiting corrosion in aqueous systems which employ amino acid chelants in concentrations which are corrosive to the metal surfaces in contact with the aqueous system. The method comprises adding to the system a corrosion inhibiting amount of 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDPA). The corrosion inhibiting amount is generally in the range of from 0.5% to 10% on the basis of the concentration of amino acid chelant in the system.

A composition useful for treating aqueous systems comprising a naphthylamine polycarboxylic acid having the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is CO.sub.2 H or SO.sub.3 H, Y is H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, CO.sub.2 H or SO.sub.3 H, R is H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, CO.sub.2 R' or COR', R' is C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, n is an integer from 1 to 20, and water soluble salts thereof.

Naphthylamine polycarboxylic acids

A method of inhibiting corrosion of a metal surface in an aqueous system having a pH of at least 6, comprising maintaining in the aqueous system, in an amount effective to inhibit corrosion, a water-soluble, organic-rare earth metal chelate which is derived from a rare earth metal having an atomic number from 57 to 71 and an organic chelant. The organic chelant provides not only water solubility but surprisingly enhanced corrosion inhibiting activity. The water-soluble, organic-rare earth chelates may be advantageously combined with other corrosion inhibitors such as zinc chelates, organophosphonates, phosphates, chromates, molybdates, and the like.

Method of inhibiting corrosion and scale formation in aqueous systems

New polyamino-polyphosphonic-hydroxybenzenesulfonic acid compounds as the free acid or their alkali or alkaline earth metal salt. Specifically, the compounds are the mono- and di-(1,1-diphosphono-1-alkylaminomethyl)-4-hydroxybenzenesulfonic acid. These compounds are useful as corrosion inhibiting agents for metal/water applications.
