Training at the proper level of effort is important for athletes whose objective is to achieve the best results in the least time. In running, for example, pace is often monitored. However, pace alone does not reveal specific issues with regard to running form, efficiency, or technique, much less inform how training should be modified to improve performance or fitness. A sensing system and wearable sensor platform described herein provide real-time feedback to a user/wearer of his power expenditure during an activity. In one example, the system includes an inertial measurement unit (IMU) for acquiring multi-axis motion data at a first sampling rate, and an orientation sensor to acquire orientation data at a second sampling rate that is varied based on the multi-axis motion data.

Methods and apparatus for power expenditure and technique determination during bipedal motion

Systems and methods for determining the impact of air resistance on the power being produced by a body motion are disclosed. In one aspect, a method includes measuring positions and orientations of a portion of the body in motion. The method further includes measuring pressure experienced by the portion of the body in motion. The motion further includes calculating a static pressure based on the measured pressures and correlated position and orientation measurements. The method further includes calculating a maximum pressure and calculating an air induced power exerted on the body in motion.

A method for processing a video stream includes obtaining frame data of a current frame of the video stream, determining frame difference data based on a comparison of the frame data of the current frame and scene cache data for a previous frame of the video stream, the scene cache data being stored in a scene cache for the video stream, determining, based on the frame difference data, regions of the video stream to be re-sampled at a higher resolution than the frame data, obtaining re-sampling data for the determined regions, updating the scene cache data based on the obtained frame data and the re-sampling data, and providing the re-sampling data to a processor to update an analysis scene cache for the video stream.

A machine vision method includes obtaining a first representation of an image captured by an image sensor array, analyzing the first representation for an assessment of whether the first representation is sufficient to support execution of a machine vision task by the processor, if the first representation is not sufficient, determining, based on the first representation, a region of the image of interest for the execution of the machine vision task, reusing the image captured by the image sensor array to obtain a further representation of the image by directing the image sensor array to sample the image captured by the image sensor array in a manner guided by the determined region of the image of interest and by the assessment, and analyzing the further representation to assess whether the further representation is sufficient to support the execution of the machine vision task by implementing a procedure for the execution of the machine vision task in accordance with the further representation.

Systems and methods for controlling power consumption in a computer system. For each of a plurality of interactive applications, the method changes a frequency at which a processor of the computer system runs, receives an indication of user satisfaction, determines a relationship between the changed frequency and the user satisfaction of the interactive application, and stores the determined relationship information. The determined relationship can distinguish between different users and different interactive applications. A frequency may be selected from the discrete frequencies at which the processor of the computer system runs based on the determined relationship information for a particular user and a particular interactive application running on the processor of the computer system. The processor may be adapted to run at the selected frequency.

System and method for controlling power consumption in a computer system based on user satisfaction

A system and method for leveraging physiological traits to control microprocessor frequency are disclosed. In some embodiments, the system and method may optimize, for example, a particular processor-based architecture based on, for example, end user satisfaction. In some embodiments, the system and method may determine, for example, whether their users are satisfied to provide higher efficiency, improved reliability, reduced power consumption, increased security, and a better user experience. The system and method may use, for example, biometric input devices to provide information about a user's physiological traits to a computer system. Biometric input devices may include, for example, one or more of the following: an eye tracker, a galvanic skin response sensor, and/or a force sensor.

System and method for leveraging human physiological traits to control microprocessor frequency

Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a method for power management including determining at least one of an operating frequency and an operating voltage for a processor and configuring the processor based on the determined at least one of the operating frequency and the operating voltage. The operating frequency is determined based at least in part on direct user input. The operating voltage is determined based at least in part on an individual profile for processor.
