A method is provided for repairing a turbine nozzle assembly with an insert and a support structure. The method includes positioning the insert on the support structure of the turbine nozzle assembly; and plug welding the insert to the support structure of the turbine nozzle assembly.

Turbine nozzle assemblies and methods for repairing turbine nozzle assemblies

A containment system comprises at least one passage obstructer extending from a housing inlet cover through a diffuser passage and into a housing back cover. The passage obstructer includes a fastener portion, such as a bolt, and an obstructing portion extending from and integral to a shaft of the fastener portion. The diameter of the obstructing portion is less than the diameter of the shaft, allowing the obstructing portion to bend upon impact with a burst impeller fragment.

Augmented vaneless diffuser containment

A composite resilient mount for rolling element bearings, comprising a composite hoop portion, and including a plurality of circumferentially dispersed inner pads and outer pads defining a plurality of arcuate beam portions disposed circumferentially between adjacent pads. The hoop portion and the inner and outer pads, may comprise a circumferentially wound fiber, such as a carbon fiber, and a resin. The inner and outer pads may be rounded, feathered or otherwise configured to eliminate edges from the inner and outer pads, thereby preventing damage to adjacent components. A method for providing damping to a rolling element bearing is also disclosed.

Composite resilient mount

An inner sleeve, having threads on each end, is formed on a motor or generator rotor. A pair of stub shafts are threadably attached to the inner sleeve at each end and a magnet is placed in between. The stub shafts are turned on the inner sleeve to bring them together, thereby creating an axial compressive force on the magnet. By keeping the magnet in a compressive state at all times, cracking of the magnet is prevented, thus keeping the rotor stable during use of the motor or generator. An outer sleeve is shrunk-fit around the magnet and stub shafts to provide a further radial force on the rotor. The magnet assembly of the present invention also enlarges the required radial shrink-fit tolerance of the outer sleeve on the magnet, thereby reducing costs conventionally required to match the outer sleeve to the magnet within close tolerances.

A circuit board damping assembly provides a damping node for a circuit board coupled in spaced relationship to another circuit board or chassis. The circuit board damping assembly includes a chassis or circuit board forming a base member; a circuit board coupled in spaced relationship to the base member; a first attachment member coupled to the base member; a second attachment member coupled to the circuit board; and a connector coupled between the first and second attachment members. The connector may be a wire coupled to the first and second attachment members.

A composite tie rod comprises a plurality of coated fiber bundles stretched between two nut assemblies. Fiber holders, in combination with the nut assemblies, hold the fiber bundles in tension to provide a compressive force for maintaining component placements along the entire axial length of a turbomachinery rotor.

Threaded inner sleeve for generator magnet

A system and method for reducing blade strain on the fan blades of an air cycle machine is proposed. The method involves a strut arrangement that is positioned in a cylindrical air passage upstream from the fan assembly. The strut arrangement includes at least three struts, wherein the at least three struts are separated by unequal degrees of separation along the circumference of the air passage. The strut arrangement effectively reduces the strain on the blades of the fan assembly.

An apparatus for preventing movement of a wheel on a shaft comprises a nut concentrically disposed on the shaft. A spring is disposed on the shaft and is operatively adjacent to the nut such that the spring can be biased towards the wheel. A first clamping ring is concentrically disposed on the wheel, with the first clamping ring being operatively adjacent the spring. A second clamping ring is operatively adjacent to the side of the wheel that is opposite to the first clamping ring, and a raceway is disposed between the shaft and wheel.

Tie-boltless shaft lock-up mechanism

A microturbine power generation system includes an electrical generator, a turbine and a compressor intermediate the generator and the turbine. Rotating components of the turbine, compressor and electrical generator are secured together by a tie-bolt. The tie-bolt is pre-stressed such that faces of the rotating components of the turbine, electrical generator and compressor maintain contact during high-speed, high-temperature operation of the system. The tie-bolt includes a thermally less conductive short portion that is secured to the rotating component of the turbine wheel, and an elongated portion that extends through the rotating components of the compressor and electrical generator. The short, thermally less conductive portion of the tie-bolt inhibits heat from propagating from the turbine end towards the compressor. The short, thermally less conductive portion can be a titanium rod that is inertia-welded between the elongated portion of the tie-bolt and the rotating component of the turbine.

A high aspect ratio, low solidity fan blade of an axial flow air cycle machine has a local tip center of gravity axis that has been shifted ahead of an elastic axis. The center of gravity axis can be shifted by clipping the tip of the blade at the trailing edge, by undercutting a rear portion of the pressure surface, or by sweeping forward leading and trailing edges of the blade by about five degrees (without clipping or undercutting the blade).
