The present subject matter provides for a multi-layer conductive trace. The trace can be formed by digital printing the individual layers and firing. The individual layers each impart functional characteristics to the conductive trace and each layer has components that can be adjusted to affect the performance characteristics of that particular layer without detrimentally affecting the performance characteristics of the remaining layers.

The present invention provides a method of decorating a ceramic article including: providing an ink composition including a metallic soap, the ink composition being a viscous oil or waxy solid at about 25&deg; C.; heating the ink composition to reduce its viscosity to less than about 40 centipoise; depositing micro-droplets of the heated ink composition upon the ceramic article; and firing the ceramic article in an oxidizing atmosphere. In the most preferred embodiment of the invention, the ink composition is substantially solvent-free.

Method of decorating a ceramic article

The present invention provides new solid solutions having a corundum-hematite crystalline structure which are useful as inorganic color pigments. Solid solutions according to the present invention include a host component having a corundum-hematite crystalline structure which contains as guest components one or more elements from the group consisting of aluminum, antimony, bismuth, boron, chrome, cobalt, gallium, indium, iron, lanthanum, lithium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, neodymium, nickel, niobium, silicon, tin, titanium, vanadium, and zinc. Solid solutions according to the present invention are formed by thoroughly mixing compounds, usually metal oxides or precursors thereof, which contain the host and guest components and then calcining the compounds to form the solid solutions having the corundum-hematite crystalline structure. Some of the new solid solutions according to the present invention exhibit relatively low Y CIE tri-stimulus values and relatively high near infrared reflectance.

The present invention provides lead and cadmium free glass enamel compositions. In one embodiment of the invention, glass frits include from about 0.1 percent by weight to about 15 percent by weight Nb.sub.2 O.sub.5, less than about 3 percent by weight alkali metal oxides, less than about 3 percent by weight ZnO, less than about 1 percent by weight B.sub.2 O.sub.3, and precursors from which Bi.sub.2 SiO.sub.5 can be crystallized upon firing, said precursors including Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3 and SiO.sub.2. Glass frits according to the present invention preferably further include up to about 25 percent by weight of coloring oxides, such as CeO.sub.2, Co.sub.3 O.sub.4, In.sub.2 O.sub.3, SnO, Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, CuO, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, MnO.sub.2, MoO.sub.3, NiO, and V.sub.2 O.sub.5. By incorporating various amounts of coloring oxides into the compositions, the degree of crystallization and the rate at which crystallization occurs upon firing of the compositions can be controlled. Compositions according to the present invention form enamels upon firing which exhibit excellent resistance to acids, water, and alkalis as compared to enamels formed from prior art lead and cadmium free glass enamel compositions.

This invention relates to a process for making a bismuth-vanadium-molybdenum-containing composition comprising: (A) preparing three separate aqueous compositions comprising: a first aqueous composition having a pH in the range of about 0.5 to about 4; a second aqueous composition comprising bismuth and having a pH in the range of about 0.2 to about 3; and a third aqueous composition comprising at least one salt of vanadium and at least one salt of molybdenum and having a pH in the range of about 9 to about 14; (B) adding said second aqueous composition and said third aqueous composition simultaneously to said first aqueous composition to form a fourth aqueous composition, and maintaining said fourth aqueous composition at a temperature in the range of about 30.degree.C. to about 90.degree.C. for up to about 4 hours, said fourth aqueous composition comprising precipitated solids; (C) separating said solids from said fourth aqueous composition; and (D) heating said solids at a temperature in the range of about 250.degree.C. to about 675.degree.C. for about 0.5 to about 30 hours to provide said bismuth-vanadtum-molybdenum-containing composition. This invention also relates to bismuth-vanadium-molybdenum-containing compositions made by the foregoing process, and to colored compositions containing such bismuth-vanadium-molybdenum-containing compositions.

The present invention provides a novel enamel composition and a method of using the same to decorate substrates such as a section of glass. The enamel composition comprises a solids portion and a vehicle. The solids portion includes at least one glass frit and a separate and distinct addition of silicon. The solids portion comprises from about 0.01 weight percent to about 20 weight percent metallic silicon.
