A messaging system comprises memory for storing contact information and location information for a plurality of users, referred to hereafter as 'participants,' who may be dispersed across a wide geographic area. When a user desires to solicit images from a particular geographic region of interest, the user provides inputs indicative of such region, and messaging logic then automatically determines which participants are within the region of interest based on the stored location information. Using the contact information, the messaging logic then initiates communication with the identified participants in order to solicit images of the region of interest. In response, willing participants may capture and return images as may be desired. Thus, the system facilitates the process of finding people at or close to an event of interest, communicating with such people to solicit images of the event or the effects of the event, and then collecting such images.

Systems and methods for communicating with remote users

An apparatus for communicating weather related information to a vehicle has been developed. The invention includes, a navigational positioning system that provides the location of the vehicle and a receiver for receiving weather related data at the vehicle that includes road conditions, atmospheric conditions, weather warnings and watches, and forecast conditions. The weather related data is associated with a geographic grid that is made of a plurality of cells. The invention's processor determines if the weather related data is associated with the vehicle location and displays the weather related data to the vehicle's occupants.

System for providing environmental condition information to vehicles and related methods

A weather alert manager is used to provide real-time, site specific information to a user regarding weather and possibly other hazards. The weather alert manager compares meteorological data, a user profile including information on points of interest to the user, and geographical data to determine if weather will impact one or more of the user's points of interest. The user's points of interest include at least one mobile point of interest, which periodically transmits its location. The weather alert manager transmits a user alert message if one is needed, and a remote receiver notifies the user that a message has been received.

Method and system of providing real-time site specific information

The present system and methods provides for distribution of weather and other environmental information to remote users within a wireless transmitter coverage area. The system and method assigns meteorological data to a plurality of cells, each corresponding to a communication range of a wireless transmitter. The data is then distributed by the appropriate wireless transmitter to all users within its coverage area. The system and method does not distribute information to a particular user based upon a known communication address, user profile, or identification, but rather is directed to any user falling within the communications range of the wireless transmitter. By indiscriminate distribution of reportable events, the system provides timely, site-specific information without requiring the location of the remote units.

System and method for providing environmental information to a wireless transmitter coverage area

A system that predicts current tornado activity has been developed. The system includes a processor that receives model data from a meteorological data source that indicates tornadic activity and generates a model data tornado potential index. The processor also receives radar data indicative of tornadic activity and generates a radar data tornado potential index using weighted values assigned to different components of the radar data, where the components of the radar data comprise, a tornado vortex signature (TVS) data value, a mesocyclonic activity (MESO) data value, a precipitation and intensity (dBz) data value, a vertically integrated liquid (VIL) data value, and hail size data value. The processor further generates a composite tornado potential index using weighted values of the model data tornado potential index and the radar data tornado potential index and stores the index in an electronic, data storage media.

The present system and method detects and predicts potential tornadic activity. In one aspect, the invention predicts potential tornadic activity based on radar data. In another aspect, the invention predicts potential tornadic activity based on an integrated and composite product based on model forecast data and radar data by generating a composite tornado potential index using weighted values of the model forecast data and the radar data.

A system for providing environmental condition information to remote users includes a computer system that obtains environmental data from a variety of sources and converts them into data that indicate presence of an environmental condition (including the strength, severity and form of a weather event), a distribution network in communication with the computer system, and one or more remote systems, which further comprise a receiver configured to receive distribution network signals and down convert them, and a remote computer system. The remote computer system is configured to receive the down-converted signals from the receiver and uses the data transmitted in the messages to determine whether the environmental conditions are geo-graphically relevant to the remote system based upon the geographic position of the remote system. The remote systems include a display systems which provide visual or aural alerts relating to weather phenomena, road conditions, road status or traffic.

System for providing site-specific, real-time environmental condition information to vehicles and related methods

A system and method for displaying storm tracks is provided. The method includes combining topographic imagery, preferably high-resolution photographic images, with storm path vectors. The method further includes panning along the storm path vector, in a 'zoomed-in' mode, to allow site-specific depiction of geographic landmarks and expected times of arrival. A system for performing the method includes control logic which causes a computer system to execute the steps of the method is also provided.

System and method for displaying storm tracks

A method of processing meteorological data to combine meteorological threat products for presentation in a single graphical image is disclosed. In accordance with the invention, meteorological data is received from at least one meteorological data source, and the received meteorological data is processed to generate more than one distinct threat products for a given geographic area. The distinct threat products are then combined to create a composite threat product, which may be graphically displayed together with a graphical representation of the geographic area affected by the threat products. A system for processing meteorological data for the graphical display of more than one threat product in a single graphical image is also disclosed.

Real-time three-dimensional weather data processing method and system

A system for providing real-time site specific weather information includes a plurality of remote sensing units, each of which incorporates an electronic messaging system for delivering electronic messages indicative of ground level meteorological observations, and a server system communicating with the remote sensing units to receive the electronic messages. The server system includes a database for storing information pertaining to the remote sensing units and instructions for routing the received electronic messages. At least one remote system is configured to receive non-ground level meteorological data indicative of a weather phenomenon and to associate the electronic messages with the non-ground level meteorological data for graphical display together with a graphical view of the geographic area affected by the weather phenomenon and the ground level meteorological observations. A method for providing real-time site specific weather information is also disclosed.

Real-time site specific weather information distribution system and method

An event notification system in accordance with the present invention includes a computer system configured to receive data indicative of an event to be warned for and to process the data to define a boundary for an area affected by the event. A distribution site communicates with the computer system to distribute information indicative of the boundary of the area affected by the event to a plurality of devices remote from the distribution site and each other. The plurality of remote devices communicate with the distribution site to receive information indicative of the boundary of the area affected by the event and each is configured to determine if it is affected by the event and to respond accordingly. A method of remotely activating a warning device in response to an event notification is also disclosed.
