Techniques for performing an incremental update to a set of hierarchically structured information that do not expose the structure and content of the hierarchically structured information to unauthorized parties. The present techniques include encrypting the hierarchically structured information such that an arrangement of nodes and corresponding data of the hierarchically structured information is not exposed and each node includes a corresponding node identifier that is not encrypted and updating the hierarchically structured information by referring to the nodes using the node identifiers.

Secure incremental updates to hierarchicaly structured information

A data-dependent overlay network includes a plurality of data clouds. Each data cloud includes related data stored in a plurality of nodes in the data cloud. A peer list is maintained by each node in the data cloud. A peer list update process is used by each node in the data cloud for adding or removing nodes from peer lists for nodes in the data cloud.

An information system that includes mechanisms for assigning incoming access transactions to individual access subsystems based on an analysis of the incoming access transactions. The analysis and assignment of the incoming access transactions may be used to minimize loss of cached data during power reduction in an information system.

Priority analysis of access transactions in an information system

The invention provides for encryption of hierarchically structured information. In one embodiment, a method is provided for encrypting hierarchically structured information. The hierarchically structured information includes a particular node and zero or more descendent nodes, each node having a name and zero or more additional data for the node. The name of the particular node is encrypted and the encrypted name is stored. The one or more descendent nodes are stored with the parent-child relationships of the one or more descendent nodes exposed. Additional data for the particular node may be encrypted. Further, some, none or all of the data for the descendent nodes may be encrypted.

Time-based other keys are generated based on the master key. Time-based identifiers are generated based on the time-based other keys. A data center is disclosed with power-aware adaptation that minimizes the performance impact of reducing the power consumption of individual nodes in the data center. A data center according to the present techniques includes a request redirector that obtains an access request for data stored on a set of storage devices and that distributes the access request to one of a set of access nodes in response to a priority of the access request and a rank of each access node. A data center according to the present techniques also includes a power manager that performs a power adaptation in the data center by selecting access nodes for power reduction based on the ranks of the access nodes. The judicious distribution of access requests to appropriately ranked nodes and the judicious selection of access nodes for power reduction enhances the likelihood that higher priority cached data is not lost during power adaptation.

Power-aware adaptation in a data center

A computer system for conserving operating power includes a number of computer hardware processor cores that differ amongst themselves in at least in their respective operating power requirements and processing capabilities. A monitor gathers performance metric information from each of the computer hardware processor cores that is specific to a particular run of application software then executing. A workload transfer mechanism transfers the executing application software to a second computer hardware processor core in a search for reduced operating power. A transfer delay mechanism is connected to delay a subsequent transfer of the executing application software if the system operating power may be conserved by such delay.

Dynamically selecting processor cores for overall power efficiency

An information server with power-aware adaptation that enables power reduction while minimizing the performance impact of power reduction. An information server according to the present techniques includes a transaction prioritizer that determines which of a set of memory subsystems in the information server is to cache a set of data associated with each incoming information access transaction and further includes a power manager that performs a power adaptation in the information server in response to a set of ranks assigned to the memory subsystems. An association of priorities of the incoming information access transactions to appropriately ranked memory subsystems and the judicious selection of memory subsystems for power adaptation enhances the likelihood that higher priority cached data is not lost during power adaptation.

Power-aware adaptation in an information server

In a compunctions network of low power devices, power consumption of the devices is reduced by periodically receiving a timing signal in each device from a transmitter external to the network. A real-time clock in each of the devices is synchronized to the periodically received timing signal to determine a synchronized timing interval. Transmitting and receiving of data between the devices is initiated during an awake period of the synchronized timing interval. Power consumption is reduced in each of the devices during a sleep period of the synchronized timing interval, the sleep period being significantly longer than the awake period.
