An electrical connector includes a compliant attachment at a first end of the electrical connector, the ferrule-like attachment configured to be received by a printed circuit board; a male blade at a second end of the electrical connector extending from the first end along a longitudinal axis; the male blade configured to removably engage a female blade electrical connector, the male blade having a first side flap and a second side flap, the first side flap and second side flap each having an edge and each of the first side flap and second side flap folded over upon itself such that the edges of the first and second side flaps substantially oppose each other along the longitudinal axis; an intermediate region between the ferrule-like attachment and the male blade, wherein at least one of the first side flap and the second side flap includes a support tab that extends into the intermediate region.

Insulation displacement terminal system with regulated wire compression

An insulation-displacement assembly is disclosed. The insulation-displacement assembly includes a first insulation-displacement terminal (IDT) adapted to receive in a mating configuration a second IDT, the first IDT including a first plate that includes: a base edge and a slot configured to receive an electrical conductor surrounded by an insulator and to displace the insulator, wherein the slot extends towards the center of the first plate from a second edge located opposite the base edge. The insulation-displacement assembly further includes a first housing component coupled to the first IDT.

Insulation displacement system

An insulation-displacement system that comprises a first insulation-displacement terminal (IDT) adapted to receive in a mating configuration a second IDT. The first IDT comprises a first plate that includes a base edge, and a slot configured to receive an electrical conductor surrounded by an insulator and displace the insulator. The slot extends towards the center of the first plate from a second edge located opposite the base edge.

A crimp connector includes an electrically conductive curved member having an inner surface and a leading edge extending away from and back toward the inner surface. The leading edge, curved member, and inner surface define a first volume for receiving a conductive element. The electrically conductive member, in response to an external crimping force, is configured to cause the leading edge to contact and move along the inner surface until the first volume is substantially the same as a second volume defined by the portion of the conductive element received within the first volume.

A socket/adapter assembly includes a insulative support member for supporting terminals soldered to connection regions of a leadless integrated circuit (IC) package, a printed circuit board, or another intercoupling component. The insulative support member is removable/replaceable from the terminals to allow visual inspection of the solder connections between the terminals and connection regions. The terminals of the socket/adapter assembly are retained by the insulative support member before the connections soldered. The insulative support member is then removed so that the individual solder connections can be examined for defective solder joints and repaired, if necessary.

Removable terminal support member for integrated circuit socket/adapter

A ball grid array socket assembly consists of a socket body having a plurality of vias extending through the socket body between upper and lower surfaces thereof, a plurality of electrically conductive contact assemblies respectively disposed in corresponding vias, and a releasable cover assembly. Each of the contact assemblies includes a lower terminal end projecting outwardly from the lower surface of the body for engaging a terminal pad on a circuit board, and further includes an upper multi-fingered contact arrangement for engaging a ball contact of a ball grid array package. Three separate embodiments of the contact assemblies are disclosed. In use, the ball grid array package is received in assembled relation with the socket body adjacent the upper surface thereof wherein the ball contacts of the ball grid array package are received into the vias in engaging electrical communication with the upper contact ends of the contact assemblies. The multi-fingered upper ends of the contact assemblies engage the BGA ball contact at multiple points to reduce creep associated failure of the contact, while a pivoting contact body portion provides relative movement between the BGA contact ball and the circuit board substrate to reduce thermal expansion stresses. The lower end of the contact assembly may comprise a removable, pivotable post which permits visual inspection of the terminal post solder joint on the terminal pad of the circuit board.

Ball grid array socket assembly

A connector is disclosed which includes an insulating block having a plurality of channels therein which are substantially sized to accept terminal pins or posts of a mating component placed therein. A plurality of slots are located adjacent to the channels and respectively in communication therewith. Each channel includes a stop at the end thereof for engagement with a pin disposed therein, with the channel including a socket disposed at the bottom thereof. A plurality of contacts are placed respectively within the slots of the connector blocks with each contact having a terminal section which is sized to engage a through hole in a printed circuit board or the like, the terminal section extending from a mounting section which includes a pair of legs therein for resiliently mating with the socket of the block. The pair of legs are separated by a slot, with one leg being a short leg which is engageable with a tapered wall of the socket and the other being a contact arm which extends substantially the length of the channel slot. The contact arm includes a locking shoulder for engaging a step in the slot, the contact arm further including a projection at an end thereof which extends into the adjacent pin-receiving channel with a gap provided between the arm and the slot side wall for allowing movement of the contact arm. Provision of such legs affords firm retention of pins or posts within the connector without overstressing the contact arm. One or more locking posts may also be provided to firmly retain the connector on a mated printed circuit board or the like.

Connector

An electrical connector includes two assemblies which are adapted to mate. Each assembly has a number of contacts mounted thereon. The respective contacts (which may be pins and resilient tongues, or hermaphroditic contacts) include separate bearing surfaces and electrical contacting portions. The bearing surfaces of the contacts are subject to the abrasive action when the connector assemblies are being coupled or uncoupled, while the electrical contacting portions are protected from abrasion and contact one another only when the two assemblies are substantially coupled together.
