Technology is disclosed for identifying dynamic groups that correspond to a user of a system. A system partitions a set of dynamic groups into multiple test sets of dynamic groups. The system selects a test set and determines whether the user corresponds to the test set. In one implementation, the system combines the filters for the dynamic groups in each test set into a single test set filter. The test set filter is satisfied if the filter of any dynamic group in the test set is satisfied. This allows the system to perform a single comparison between the resulting test set filter and the user's profile to determine whether the user is a member of any dynamic group in the test set. If the user is not a member of any dynamic group in the test set, the system eliminates all of the test set's dynamic groups from consideration, based on the single comparison. Otherwise, the dynamic groups in the test set remain in a list of groups that may include the user. This process is repeated for each test set. After each test set has been evaluated, new test sets are repeatedly generated and evaluated in the above-described fashion using the dynamic groups that are still in consideration. In each iteration, each test set contains fewer dynamic groups. This continues until each test set only contains one dynamic group. After performing an iteration with each test set containing one dynamic group, the only remaining dynamic groups are the ones that include the user as a member.

Identifying dynamic groups

A persistent federated folder within a federated content management system can be used to save federated search results, to act as a container in a workflow process, or a container for a set of documents or folders with similar characteristics. The federated folder and its associated storage structure have the capability to save its instances persistently. The federated folder operations can selectively create, retrieve, update, and/or delete an instance of a federated folder in addition to adding, retrieving updating and deleting its parts and its members. Seamless integration with the federated query is provided to operate on the federated folder transparently regardless of the locality of the user or the datastores the user is searching. Access rights for federated folders are enforced according to user's general privileges.

An architecture to enable search gateways as part of a federated search supports searching for data in one or more heterogeneous data sources. The one or more heterogeneous data sources are within a computer system. Initially, a request for data is received at a federated data source. From the federated data source, data is retrieved from one or more of one or more terminal data repositories or one or more search gateway data sources.

The present invention provides cache flushing of selected data while leaving remaining cached data intact. Data can be flushed from caches distributed across various components of a network-based computer system. These caches can contain various types of data. In one embodiment, the caches exist in an Access System and contain user identity profile information. In another embodiment, the caches exist in an Access Management System and contain authentication, authorization, or auditing rules. A system in accordance with the invention detects a change to data residing on a server and transmits a synchronization record to a component of the system. The synchronization record identifies the changed data. The system flushes the changed data identified by the synchronization record from caches of the component.

A method and system for transforming XML documents to and from data objects in an object oriented framework includes: importing the XML document; parsing the XML document; building a DOM tree from the parsed XML document; constructing at least one DDO or at least one XDO based on the DOM tree; and storing the DDO or XDO in a datastore. The present invention provides a transformation bridge connecting the XML world and the object world, allowing conversions from XML documents to data objects and vice versa to be performed seamlessly. The federated query object translates a generic query into the appropriate queries for each datastore, the federated datastore object acts as a virtual datastore for multiple heterogeneous datastores with the ability to map concepts between datastores, and the federated collection object represents results from a federated query in a hierarchy that maintains sub-grouping information from each datastore to allow accessing of results by datastore or as a single collection of results. The federated objects thus provide user applications with enhanced accessibility of different hierarchies of information, as well as more robust search capabilities.

When data is requested using the client collection, physical data is retrieved from the server computer.

In particular, a technique for manipulating data in one or more heterogeneous datastores at a computer is provided. An object-oriented model is provided for integrating one or more heterogeneous datastores with a federated datastore. One or more heterogeneous datastores and a federated datastore are generated based on the object-oriented model. The generated datastores are organized into a federated composition.
