Composite nanoparticle compositions and associated nanoparticle assemblies are described herein which, in some embodiments, exhibit enhancements to one or more thermoelectric properties including increases in electrical conductivity and/or Seebeck coefficient and/or decreases in thermal conductivity. In one aspect, a composite nanoparticle composition comprises a semiconductor nanoparticle including a front face and a back face and sidewalls extending between the front and back faces. Metallic nanoparticles are bonded to at least one of the sidewalls establishing a metal-semiconductor junction.

In one aspect, thermoelectric apparatus and articles and various applications of thermoelectric apparatus and articles are described herein. In some embodiments, a thermoelectric apparatus described herein comprises at least one p-type layer coupled to at least one n-type layer to provide a pn junction, and an insulating layer at least partially disposed between the p-type layer and the n-type layer, the p-type layer comprising carbon nanoparticles and the n-type layer comprising n-doped carbon nanoparticles. In some embodiments, the nanoparticles of the p-type layer and/or the nanoparticles of the n-type layer are disposed in a polymeric matrix comprising electrically poled polymer. In some embodiments, a thermoelectric article comprises a thermally insulating support and thermoelectric modules formed of a structure passing around or through the thermally insulating support to provide faces of the thermoelectric modules on opposing sides of the thermally insulating support.

Thermoelectric apparatus and articles and applications thereof

An electroluminescent device described herein, in one aspect, comprises a first electrode and second electrode and a light emitting layer positioned between the first and second electrodes. A current injection gate is positioned between the first electrode and the light emitting layer or the second electrode and the light emitting layer. In some embodiments, the current injection gate comprises a semiconductor layer of electronic structure restricting injected current flow from the first or second electrode through the semiconductor layer as a function of alternating current voltage frequency applied to the first and second electrodes.

The invention provides a disk drive suspension. The suspension has a load beam and a flexure having a frame and a tongue portion having a base and a tongue. The flexure mounts one or more microactuators in opposed or offset relation for shifting the base of the flexure tongue portion relative to the flexure frame and thus positionally adjusting the tongue and the slider fixed to the tongue with respect to the disk that is in operating proximity to the slider.

A dental implant impression confirmation system utilizes one or more telescoping crossbrace members. Each crossbrace links one coping to an adjacent coping. The ends of the telescoping crossbraces include tubular eyelets or collars which each attach to a coping by snap-fit. The crossbraces further include articulated joints at each end to accommodate attachment between copings which are not parallel. The crossbrace members are preferably composed of a semi-rigid material such as plastic which permits resilience of the confirmation system to allow for the withdrawal of the copings from the implants while supplying sufficient rigidity to enhance the accuracy of the impression.

A disk drive suspension having a minimized 2torsion characteristic includes a load beam having a given side profile and centerline rotation axis. The load beam has a base portion, a spring portion, and a beam portion. The beam portion has a distal section supporting a flexure having a tongue. There is a dimple between the tongue and the load beam, and a slider carried on the tongue for gimballing movement about the dimple. The dimple has a given height that displaces said beam portion so that the beam portion side profile is biased from said centerline rotation axis. A bend is placed in the beam portion distal section of a size and location to offset the displacement of the beam portion by the dimple while maintaining the beam portion before said distal section straight. Thus, the beam portion side profile registers with the centerline rotation axis and its 2torsion characteristic is minimized.

Problems aligning a slider with a dimple post in manufacture of head gimbal assemblies for disk drive suspensions are obviated by defining left and right optically readable indicia that are visible when the dimple post is not and that serve as a reference for positioning apparatus rather then the dimple post itself.

PZT crystals are peripherally coated in manufacture by cutting a series of intersecting first kerfs in a wafer comprising a plurality of PZT crystal precursors, filling the kerfs with a coating resin, and cutting a second, narrower kerf in the locus of the first kerfs to separate the crystals while providing them a peripheral coating of the coating resin.

A single piece suspension and actuator arm includes a load beam having an integrated flexure and hinge each formed of the same web as the load beam, the flexure being foldable at the hinge to lie over the load beam engaged therewith to secure the flexure in its folded over condition. The load beam defines an additional attachment structure that attaches to cooperating attachment structure on the actuator arm, with one or more of the attachment structures comprising a tab and slot arrangement.
