A printer having a color copy capability is enabled by scanning an original document having at least two discrete colored areas onto a color-filtered photosensor array simultaneously with formation of an electrostatic image of the original on a photoconductor member. The array generates output signals corresponding to detected color areas of the original document. These signals are sent to the printer software which determines the detected color image coordinates of each portion of the output copy. Output copies are then made, using multiple imaging erase and development passes.

Automatic color separation system

In photoelectrophoretic imaging, a novel multicolor line or cross line filter element and method for maintaining color balance wherein the filter grid comprises a plurality of yellow, cyan and magenta color segments or their complementary colors of controlled varying widths for limiting color interaction in the resulting integrated image.

The present invention is directed toward a color electrophotographic imaging process and a method for extending the range capabilities of said process. The process includes providing a document screen adapted to be used at the exposure station proximate to the image face of a document to be copied, such that light reflected from the screened document is passed through a lens system and imaged onto a photosensitive member. The document screen consists of a clear transparent base member having a dot pattern comprising dots of at least one color, preferably dots of two or more different colors. The frequency of the like dots is such that the optical system employed in the electrophotographic process passes spatial frequencies reflected from the screened original at the fundamental screen frequency but attenuates the harmonic spatial frequencies. The developed image is found to consist of a plurality of halftone colored dots of varying sizes, the dot sizes varying in accordance with the reflectivity or optical density of the original document.

Color electrophotographic process employing a document screen

An optical system in which a modulated light image of an original document is projected onto a receiving member. The optical system includes a lens and an opaque member having an array of apertures therein associated therewith to improve the light transmission properties thereof.

Exposure system for an electrophotographic printing machine

An optical system in which a light image of an original document is projected onto a light sensitive member. The light image passes through a rotating screen at discrete time intervals forming successive half-tone light images at differing screen angles.

Optical system having a rotating screen

A dual mode color electrostatographic printing machine in which either a pictorial copy or a functional copy of an original document is reproduced. Either mode of operation is selectable. In the pictorial copying mode, the latent image recorded on the photoconductive surface is modulated by a line screen pattern. Contrariwise, in the functional copying mode, the latent image remains un-modulated. The screen is shifted by one-third of the spacing between the lines in the screen for each successive color separation exposure.

Dual mode electrostatographic printing machine

Apparatus for optically imaging a halftone pattern on a xerographic photoreceptor to produce color copies of a color original. The apparatus includes a phase screen for providing a predetermined halftone pattern, the screen producing substantially the same pattern at the same spatial frequency over the visible light spectrum.

Electrophotographic halftone printing machine employing a phase screen

An electrophotographic printing machine in which an arcuate screen member has a curvature substantially equal to the curvature of an arcuate photoconductive member employed therein. The centers of curvature of the screen member and photoconductive member are located in substantial coincidence with one another.
