Integrated horizontal selective testing of production flow from individual perforations or individual lateral branches of a highly deviated or horizontal multilateral branch well is accomplished by a downhole flow rate testing tool which is selectively positioned within the wellbore by a coiled tubing deployment system for multiple downhole production flow rate tests to indicate the production flow rates of individual lateral branches or perforated zones. Logging tools are on-board the downhole flow rate testing tool for accuracy of tool location and for conducting downhole production flow rate tests. A multi-phase flowmeter at the surface measures the total production flow rate of fluid flowing in the flowline of the well. Real-time downhole flow measurements are correlated to provide a production flow rate profile. The well operator may take remedial action using on-site equipment if the tests show excessive water or gas from any lateral branch.

Method and apparatus for integrated horizontal selective testing of wells

A method and apparatus for selectively actuating a dual check valve assembly within a well for a direct circulating operational mode or a reverse circulating operational mode. A tubular housing which may be connected to well tubing is provided with a check valve assembly and may be provided with a rotatable J-slot mode indexing sleeve having an internal J-slot geometry. An inner tubular member which also may be connected to well tubing is linearly movable within the tubular housing to a valve open position, an indexing position and a valve enabled position being controlled by the J-slot geometry of the J-slot indexing sleeve or being controlled by moving the inner tubular element and resisting movement of the tubular housing. Relative positioning of the inner tubular member and the tubular housing to selective valve mode positions may also be achieved responsive to fluid flow, by mechanical compression, or by motion operation.

Selective direct and reverse circulation check valve mechanism for coiled tubing

A tubing conveyed disconnect check valve mechanism having releasable connection with a payload tool and being selectively actuated downhole for disconnecting from the payload tool for retrieval by the tubing string, with the check valve enabled for direct circulating flow and preventing the inflow of wellbore fluids, while permitting the payload tool to remain in the well. A housing is connected to a tubing string, such as coiled tubing, and incorporates at least one check valve and defines a first disconnect connector which is releasably connected with a second disconnect connector of the payload tool housing. A check valve positioning mandrel is releasably retained at a check valve disabling position within the housing for establishing a reverse circulating flow path through the check valve and is released from the housing and moved to a check valve enabling position, closing the reverse circulating flow path and permitting direct circulating flow only.

Disconnect check valve mechanism for coiled tubing

Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for setting a compression seal pack in a well without rotation of the pipe string and setting mandrel. The setting device includes a release device and a moveable member. The release device secures a setting mandrel in a non-engaged position with respect to the seal packer. The moveable member is positionable to a first position, where the setting mandrel is locked in its non-engaged position, and to a second position, where the release device is free and the setting mandrel may move with respect to the seal packer. The method disclosed herein includes coupling the setting device to a compression set packer, positioning a setting mandrel within the seal packer and setting device, positioning the seal packer at the desired location in a well, releasing the setting mandrel from its non-engaged position with respect to the seal packer and lowering the setting mandrel into engagement with said packer to set the packer in the well.
