Apparatus and methods for multi-mode charge pumps are disclosed herein. In certain configurations, a multi-mode charge pump includes an output terminal, a mode control circuit that operates the multi-mode charge pump in a selected mode, a first switched capacitor, a capacitor charging circuit, and a plurality of switches. The capacitor charging circuit connects a first end of the first switched capacitor to a charging voltage in a first phase of a clock signal, and connects the first end of the first switched capacitor to a reference voltage in a second phase of the clock signal. The charging voltage has a voltage level that changes based on the selected mode. The plurality of switches connect a second end of the first switched capacitor to the reference voltage in the first phase, and connect the second end of the first switched capacitor to the output terminal in the second phase.

Apparatus and methods for multi-mode charge pumps

Apparatus and methods for charge pumps are disclosed herein. In certain configurations, a charge pump includes a mode control circuit, a clock generation circuit that generates a clock signal, two or more switched capacitors, and a capacitor charging circuit used to charge the switched capacitors in response to transitions of the clock signal. The mode control circuit can be used to operate the charge pump in one of a plurality of modes associated with different clock signal oscillation frequencies and with different power supply voltages of the capacitor charging circuit. For example, in certain configurations, the selected mode can control an oscillation frequency of clock signal and a voltage level of a power supply voltage used by the capacitor charging circuit when charging the switched capacitors.

A system for pre-charging a current minor includes a controller configured to provide a first current and an additional current to a current minor to rapidly charge a capacitance associated with the current minor based on a reference voltage or control signals. A power amplifier module includes at least one current minor and a controller. A capacitor is coupled to the current minor. The controller provides a bias current in an amount proportional to an input to a voltage-to-current converter. The controller receives a control signal that directs the controller to apply one of a pre-charge voltage and a nominal voltage to the voltage-to-current converter.

System and method for pre-charging a current mirror

A system for pre-charging a current mirror includes a controller configured to provide a first current and an additional current to a current mirror to rapidly charge a capacitance associated with the current mirror based on a reference voltage or control signals. A power amplifier module includes at least one current minor and a controller. A capacitor is coupled to the current minor. The controller provides a bias current in an amount proportional to an input to a voltage-to-current converter. The controller receives a control signal that directs the controller to apply one of a pre-charge voltage and a nominal voltage to the voltage-to-current converter.

A power correction module for use with an amplifier driving a load impedance is configured to sample the supply current and to cause a change in a control voltage, which corrects the supply voltage in response to a change in the load impedance. The supply voltage is corrected to cause the power amplifier to have a substantially constant output power. The power correction module is further configured to output a corrected peak voltage determined by an average value of the supply current.

According to an exemplary embodiment, a transmitter system includes a power amplifier receiving a supply voltage and a supply current from a power control/current detection circuit, where the power amplifier drives a load impedance. The transmitter system further includes a power correction module configured to sample the supply current and to cause a change in a control voltage, which corrects the supply voltage in response to a change in the load impedance. The supply voltage is corrected to cause the power amplifier to have a substantially constant output power. The power correction module is further configured to output a corrected peak voltage determined by an average value of the supply current. The transmitter system further includes a predistortion module configured to determine the control voltage from a product of the corrected peak voltage and an amplitude modulation component and to output the control voltage to the power control/current detection circuit.

A wireless communication device output amplifier configured to reduce or eliminate out of band oscillations from voltage standing waves generated by antenna impedance mismatch reflection. The amplifier is configured with an input, output, and biasing node. The biasing node is configured to receive a biasing signal from a biasing amplifier. The biasing amplifier draws current from the biasing node while providing the biasing voltage to the output amplifier. To reduce or eliminate out of band voltage standing waves from antenna reflections, a frequency dependant network is provided as a feedback loop to selectively provide feedback to the output amplifier to reduce or eliminate unwanted out of band oscillations, such as voltage standing waves. The frequency dependant network may comprise one or more resistors, inductors, and capacitors which are of small size and may be integrated.
