A system includes a control circuit having a voltage input and a control circuit output. The control circuit produces a control voltage at the control circuit output having a magnitude inversely related to a magnitude of an input voltage at the input voltage input. A VCO has a VCO control input and a VCO clock output. The VCO control input is coupled to the control circuit output. The VCO produces a VCO clock on the VCO clock output having a frequency that is a function of the control voltage. A protection circuit has a first clock input, a second clock input, and a protection circuit output. The second clock input is coupled to the VCO clock output. The protection circuit generates a protection circuit output signal at the protection circuit output based on a difference in frequency between a clock signal at the first clock input and the VCO clock.

In some examples, an apparatus includes: a power stage having a power stage voltage input, a power stage control input, and a power stage output; a controller having a power stage control output coupled to the power stage control input, an output voltage status terminal, and a status signal input; a transformer having a primary side coil coupled to the power stage output, and a secondary side coil; a feedback voltage processor having a feedback input coupled to the secondary side coil, and a feedback output; a control message generator having a control input coupled to the secondary side coil, and a control message output; a status signal generator having first and second signal inputs coupled to respective feedback and control message outputs, and a status signal output; and a communication channel device coupled between the status signal input and output.

Integrated power converter with isolated-channel feedback interface

A DC-to-DC converter having primary- and secondary-side circuitry separated by an isolation barrier, with a transformer and a feedback lane across the barrier, uses a dynamic function current source in its secondary-side circuitry to dynamically adjust the hysteresis threshold only at the transformer burst turn-off edge to provide enhanced immunity to transformer switching noise. An output voltage of the converter (or signal based thereon) is compared to the threshold to provide an input to a timing pulse generator that closes a switch to couple the dynamic function current source into voltage threshold setting circuitry. The dynamic function current source can reduce the threshold to a level that avoids chattering in transformer burst turn-off feedback signal caused by the noise, for a duration that can be based on lane delay of the converter and to an amplitude that can be based on the expected maximum negative amplitude of the noise.

Isolated high-voltage DC-DC converter hysteretic burst mode noise immunity using dynamic hysteresis

A packaged electronic device includes first conductive leads and second conductive leads at least partially exposed to an exterior of a package structure, and a multilevel lamination structure in the package structure. The multilevel lamination structure includes a first patterned conductive feature having multiple turns in a first level to form a first winding coupled to at least one of the first conductive leads in a first circuit, a second patterned conductive feature having multiple turns in a different level to form a second winding coupled to at least one of the second conductive leads in a second circuit isolated from the first circuit, and a conductive shield trace having multiple turns in a second level spaced apart from and between the first patterned conductive feature and the second patterned conductive feature, the conductive shield trace coupled in the first circuit.

A battery charger and method for a rechargeable battery pack which includes various elements in series with the cells to be charged, including but not limited to current control FETs, a fuse, current sense resistor, and internal series impedance of the series connected cells to be charged. The charging current Ichg flowing through these series elements reduces the voltage applied to the cells, thus lengthening charging time. A compensation voltage Vcomp, which when added to the nominal charging voltage for the series connected cells overcomes these voltage drops, facilitates more efficient charging while avoiding over-voltage damage to the cells. Three voltages representing substantially all of the voltage drops reducing the charging voltage on the cells, are summed, and the result is a compensation voltage which is utilized to change the nominal charge voltage for the battery to overcome these voltage drops.

Various systems, methods and apparatuses are provided herein for limiting power dissipation in a switch. As one example, a method for limiting power dissipation is disclosed. The method includes monitoring current through the switch, and based at least in part on detecting that the current is at least as great as a predetermined current limit, regulating the current to the predetermined current limit. The method also includes measuring an amount of power dissipated in the switch while the current is being regulated, and opening the switch when the amount of power has reached a predetermined power limit.

Disclosed are methods, circuits, and systems for implementing an AC voltage adapter and battery charger system in a closed loop topology. Embodiments of the invention include methods for controlling an AC adapter charging a battery with steps for using a closed loop configuration to monitor one or more selected parameters in the charging loop. Feedback to the AC adapter is used for dynamically controlling the adapter output voltage. A preferred embodiment exemplifies a closed loop circuit for battery charging. The circuit includes an AC adapter and a monitoring circuit for monitoring the closed loop and for providing feedback to the AC adapter, controlling the adapter output voltage.

Methods and systems for controlling an AC adapter and battery charger in a closed loop configuration

Provided is a method of operating a charge-pump, which may be implemented in IC devices such as digital signal processors (DSPs) and mixed signal analog circuits. The method includes the steps of charging a first capacitor, and then choosing between two switching sequences based on the relative values of the input voltage and the output voltage. When the input voltage is determined to be greater than the output voltage, the method applies a first switching sequence to discharge the first capacitor into a second capacitor by first partially discharging the first capacitor into the second capacitor, then fully discharging the first capacitor into the second capacitor. When the input voltage is determined to be less than or equal to the output voltage, the method uses a second switching sequence to prevent the discharge of the second capacitor into the first capacitor by electrically isolating the first capacitor.

Charge-pump device and method of sequencing charge-pump switches

Provided is a linear voltage regulator and method of use thereof which controls the voltage input to an integrated circuit such as a digital signal processor (DSP) or a processor. The method includes the sequential steps of generating a first ramping voltage to a load connection when the load is in a start-up phase, and generating a second operating voltage to the load connection when the load is in an operational phase. The linear voltage regulator includes a control circuit and a regulation circuit that implements the method.
