A display system and method for displaying an image on a non-planar display that allows the images to be mapped by image mappers while encompassing image data of an adjacent sub-image or sub-images. This allows a single unified image to be displayed in real time without any tearing or positional/angular artifacts at the image boundaries.

Non-linear image mapping using a plurality of non-linear image mappers of lesser resolution

A multi-channel display system comprises a plurality of display devices, each display device having a non-pixel addressable light output part, e.g. a backlight, and a pixel addressable light output part, e.g. an LCD panel, in an optical path. The non-pixel addressable light output part and the pixel addressable light output part are arranged to both have a temporal modulation, so that a perceivable optical output of the display device is a combination of the outputs of the temporal modulation of the pixel addressable light output part and the temporal modulation of the non pixel addressable light output part. At least two of the display devices are arranged for displaying adjacent image parts. The display system furthermore comprises a linking means for linking the driving of the non pixel addressable light output part of at least the two display devices being arranged for displaying adjacent image parts.

Multiple display channel system with high dynamic range

A display processing system for providing video signals for displaying an image is provided. The display processing system comprises input channels for receiving a plurality of component images, each component image being a portion of the complete image for display, the image data of each component image being defined by a view frustum having a clipping plane, and a combiner for combining the image data of the component images. According to the present invention, at least two clipping planes of two of the view frustums are non-coplanar. Such display processing system corrects for the defect of driving angular resolution to the edges of the field of view of a display system, in particular for large field-of-view display systems, and balances the overall system angular resolution by allowing each image generator channel to render to an optimal view frustum for its portion of the complete image.

Non-linear image mapping using a plurality of non-coplanar clipping planes

A projection system for projecting images is described. The projection system has an illumination system for generating an illumination beam comprising sequential color portions. The illumination beam is guided to a light modulating means based on light valves, which allows modulating an impinging illumination beam such that it comprises image information about an image to be displayed. The images are refreshed after an image frame time t. The illumination of the light modulating means for generating an image is substantially performed during a first time interval of the image frame time t. The latter results in an improved displaying of fast moving images.
