An electric clothes dryer has an irregular polygonal shaped rear wall where the apexes in the polygon align readily with the center of the heater housing to define positions where the electrical insulators are mounted to the heater housing rear wall. Raised land pads are formed from the rear wall of the heater housing at these locations and on which the insulators are mounted. The raised land pads further have radial slots that permit airflow from beneath the pad into the heater housing and across the insulator and the heating element. The apexes further provide an increased air gap for increased airflow radially across the electrical insulators. The heater housing has an air gap with the rear end head of the dryer drum which air gap is smaller adjacent the upper portions of the heater housing so as to reduce the chimney effect associated with the air heated in the heater housing.

Heater housing for an electric clothes dryer

A clothes dryer having a rear end head with axially spaced apart apertures through which air may enter into the dryer drum through a diffuser wall mounted to the inside of the drum end head. The apertures in the end head have an air flow deflection shield integrally formed therewith. The air flow deflection shield extends radially across the apertures in the end head, is recessed from the rear end head and is spaced from the diffuser wall. Advantage is found with the use of such an air flow deflection shield because it permits for the apertures in the rear head to be of sufficient size to permit satisfactory air flow into the dryer drum while deflecting the air away from potential warm spots generated through and on the surface of the diffuser wall that would otherwise be in direct immediate air flow impingement with the apertures in the end head.

Clothes dryer drum rear end head

There is disclosed an arrangement for mounting a heating coil relative to a supporting wall of a clothes dryer heater housing. An insulator has a main body portion adapted to secure the heating coil relative thereto and a base portion adapted to be seated in fixed relation to the supporting wall. The base portion has first and second flanges which curve downwardly and outwardly from the insulator. The support wall has two raised tab members which are adapted to define between these tab members and the supporting wall a recessed channel for receiving the first flange of the insulator. The supporting wall further has two spaced apart guide members for engagement with opposite sides of the second flange of the base member to prevent relative lateral movement of the insulator. The supporting wall has a pivotably movable locking flange which is pivotable about a crease located between the two guide members. The locking flange has a hook adapted to move into engagement with the second flange of the insulator to prevent the insulator from being pulled away from the supporting wall surface.

Heater coil mounting arrangement

A ceramic heater coil support bracket, suitable for use in a clothes dryer, supports a helically wound heating coil in spaced apart relation from a support surface or wall. The bracket includes a base adapted for securement to the support surface and a pair of spaced apart arms upstanding from the base defining an open slot extending across the bracket in a transverse direction above the base. Each of the arms includes a coil support post having an arrowhead shape extending inwardly toward of the slot. Each of the posts includes inner and outer coil receiving grooves adapted to receive consecutive turns of the coil. The posts are laterally offset from each other in the transverse direction of the slot so that the posts support different consecutive turns of the coil. The posts have a relatively flat upper surface having an arrowhead shape projecting into the slot with sloping inside and outside surfaces of the arrowhead tapering outwardly and downwardly from the top surface. The arrowhead has two barbs each defining one wall of the grooves. The inner and outer receiving grooves of each of the posts are spaced apart in the direction of coil pitch a distance slightly larger than one coil pitch. The inner receiving grooves of each of the coil slots are spaced apart a distance slightly less than 1/2 the pitch of the coil. There is also disclosed an arrangement for mounting the bracket in the supporting wall in which the supporting wall includes a slot having widened and narrowed ends that co-operate with the bracket to hold the bracket in the slot.

Heater coil support and mounting bracket

A support bracket and a method for mounting a heating coil in a dryer or the like by means of such bracket is disclosed. The support bracket is a plate of unitary construction having one or more openings for receiving and supporting an insulating bushing and a pair of support legs adapted for engagement with slots in a support wall. At least one portion of the plate is folded upon itself to form a retaining rim for the bushing and reinforcing the support legs.

Heater coil mounting for a dryer

The cabinet of an appliance with a downwardly opening door is stabilized by a pair of legs each pivotally mounted to the cabinet on an axis fixed to the cabinet and oriental relative to the cabinet so that pivotal movement of each leg above its respective pivotal axis moves the foot of the leg forwardly and downwardly into a supporting position or movement of the door to closed position retracts the legs to their initial position.

Anti-tilt system for appliances

A conventional clothes drier is provided with a rack structure mounted on the bulkhead that extends into and plugs the access opening to the drum of the drier. The rack is selectively mountable in either an operative extended position projecting cantilever fashion into the drier drum or alternatively in a retracted or storing position wherein the rack is contained within the bulkhead.

A heater coil mounting is provided by means of a bracket having seats formed at or adjacent each axial end and into which an insulator through which the heater element passes, is adapted to be received. The bracket is mounted in position on a wall using tabs which cooperate with portions of the bracket to hold the bracket close to the wall and form a further portion of the seat to lock the insulator in position.

Heater coil mounting

A drum for a clothes drier formed from a cylindrical sleeve into which is inserted a pair of opposed head structures, each provided with a seat snugly received in the adjacent end of the sleeve and terminated by an abutment to limit the penetration of the head into the sleeve. Axially extending projections are provided at each end of the sleeve and these projections are bent around their adjacent seats thereby to hold the heads and sleeve together.

An appliance frame having a score line formed by pressing metal to form a plurality of dimples each having a substantially straight severed edge extending out of the plain of the metal and arranged in a substantially straight line to form the score line, thereby to weaken the metal sufficiently that it may be manually bent to form a substantially right-angle bend at the score line.

A one piece substantially W-shaped plastic clip has a pair of outer legs that are flexible and can move in a first direction toward an intermediate member that in turn is movable in a direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction of movement above described. Each leg has a notch on its side remote from the intermediate member and the intermediate member has a catch projecting from a side facing perpendicular to the first direction. The notches mount the clip to a first panel and the catch is adapted to cooperate with a second panel member to retain same in position.

Retainer clip

A drier drum bearing structure formed from a single piece of molded plastic to provide a right cylindrical outer bearing wall. The bearing structure is mounted on a non-circular access opening through the drier cabinet wall on a peripheral flange extending around the opening on the wall which is received within a mounting cavity formed in part between the outer cylindrical bearing surface and an inner wall and is held in position by means of bosses on the bearing structure cooperating with mating bosses on the peripheral flange to permit movement circumferentially about the access opening while substantially preventing axial movement.

Drier bearing

The present invention relates to a retractable undercarriage formed preferably by three supporting members, two of which are leg members and the third a wheel member. The support members are moved to either move the leg members into supporting position and retract the wheel member, or to move the leg members into the retracted position and the wheel member to the supporting position. When the leg members are in the retracted position and the wheel member in supporting position the end of the cabinet that would otherwise be supported by the foot members rest on further wheels so that the cabinet is completely supported on wheels and may be moved relatively freely about the floor.
