Embolic protection aspirators and methods for extracting debris from the vasculature during interventional procedures are provided. One such system may include an aspirating filter delivery catheter having a filtration device, an operable end cap, and a plurality of aspiration ports. The delivery catheter may be fluidly coupled to a suction providing means for extracting debris while traversing a target site for distal delivery of the filtration device. Another such system may include an aspirating filter retrieval catheter having an aspiration lumen and a balloon. The aspiration lumen may be fluidly coupled to a suction providing means for extracting debris from the filtration device prior to and/or during retrieval of the filtration device. By inflating the balloon to partially or fully restrict blood flow, suction pressure proximal of the filtration device may be increased to enhance debris extraction.

Implants and methods for osteopathic augmentation and repositioning of vertebrae may comprise a chain having one or more beads or bodies configured for insertion into a vertebral body. The one or more bodies may be expandable. As the chain is inserted into the vertebral body, it may fill a central portion thereof and can push against the inner sides of the endplates of the vertebral body, thereby providing structural support and tending to restore the vertebral body to its original height. The one or more bodies may have a first configuration dimensioned to pass through a catheter or other introducer, and may expand to a second, larger configuration after insertion into the bone in order to secure the chain within the bone.

Apparatus and methods for vertebral augmentation using linked expandable bodies

An apparatus includes a body configured to be at least partially inserted into a rectum of a patient. The body defines a first passageway and a second passageway between a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The first passageway is configured to receive a medical tool and the second passageway is configured to communicate an insufflation medium. An insufflation port is coupled to the second passageway and is configured to communicate the insufflation medium to the second passageway. A retention portion is coupled to the body and is configured to have a dimension transverse to an axis defined by the body sufficient to retain at least a portion of the body in the rectum. The retention portion is configured to be located beyond an anus of the patient.

Apparatus and method of maintaining insufflation

An occlusion device for occluding a body conduit including an elongate tubular shaft having an inflatable balloon disposed near the elongate shaft distal end and a proximal seal having a sufficiently small profile to allow a second catheter to pass over the distal occlusion device while the inflatable balloon remains uninflated. One occlusion device includes an elongate fluid displacement rod within the occlusion device elongate shaft, providing both a fluid pressure source and a seal. The elongate rod can be rapidly advanced and retracted, providing rapid and controlled inflation and deflation of the distal balloon. Also provided are alignment devices for aligning inflation fluid sources with occlusion device tubular proximal ends which can inject fluid through the device into the distal balloon.

A medical lubricant suitable for injection into the blood stream of a patient. The lubricant is suitable for use with rotating equipment such as atherectomy drive shafts moving within sheaths and over guide wires and other minimally invasive medical devices introduced into a patient through a catheter like instrument. The lubricant is an oil-in-water emulsion including a surfactant, a co-surfactant, and a pH buffer. The lubricant can further include a cryogenic agent and a pH adjusting agent. One lubricant includes olive oil as an emulsified oil, egg yolk phospholipid as a surfactant, sodium deoxycholate as a co-surfactant, glycerin as a cryogenic agent, L-histidine as a pH buffer, and is pH adjusted using sodium hydroxide. The lubricant also includes a therapeutic agent. The lubricant can withstand freeze/thaw cycles as well as saline dilution, heating, and shear stress without significant creaming, separation, or unacceptable increases in oil droplet size.
