A process is described for providing clear extended compositions of essential oils which comprises a composition of an essential oil and an extender material miscible with said essential oil which does not appreciably alter the aroma of the essential oil insofar as its quality or strength is concerned, the proportion of essential oil in extender material being from about 70% up to about 99%, said extender material being an acylated dimerization product of an alpha methyl styrene or a methyl or other C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl homologue thereof or hydrogenated derivative thereof or mixture of same.

A process is described for providing clear extended compositions of essential oils which comprises a composition of an essential oil and an extender material miscible with said essential oil which does not appreciably alter the aroma of the essential oil insofar as its quality or strength is concerned, the proportion of essential oil in extender material being from about 70% up to about 99%, said extender material being a mixture of (A) a dimerization product of an alpha methyl styrene or a methyl or other C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl homologue thereof or mixture of same, and (B) one or more 'dimerization' (or 'coupling') products of one or more terpenes which are monocyclic and have two carbon-carbon double bonds or which are bicyclic and have one carbon-carbon double bond or one or more hydrogenated derivatives thereof or mixtures of same.

A process is described for providing clear extended compositions of synthetic and/or natural essential oils and/or perfumery chemicals which comprises admixing a composition of a synthetic and/or natural essential oil and/or perfumery chemical and an extender material miscible with said synthetic and/or natural essential oil and/or perfumery chemical which does not appreciably alter the aroma of the synthetic and/or natural essential oil and/or perfumery chemical insofar as its quality or strength is concerned, the proportion of synthetic and/or natural essential oil and/or perfumery chemical in extender material being from about 70% up to about 99%, said extender material being one or more 'dimerization' (or 'coupling') products of one or more terpenes which are monocyclic and have two carbon-carbon double bonds or which are bicyclic and have one carbon-carbon double bond or one or more hydrogenated derivatives thereof or mixtures of same.

Uses of terpene dimers in perfumery processes and products

A process is described for providing clear extended compositions of essential oils which comprises a composition of an essential oil and an extender material miscible with said essential oil which does not appreciably alter the aroma of the essential oil insofar as its quality or strength is concerned, the proportion of essential oil in extender material being from about 70% up to about 99%, said extender material being a dimerization product of an alpha methyl styrene or a methyl or other C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl homologue thereof or hydrogenated derivative thereof or mixture of same, having one of the generic structures: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are the same or different and each represents hydrogen or methyl or other C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl and wherein the dashed lines and wavy lines represent carbon-carbon single bonds or carbon-carbon double bonds with the proviso that when there is one double bond present only the wavy line is a double bond and when there is more than one double bond present, the ring containing the dashed lines and the wavy line is a benzene ring and wherein the line  represents either a carbon-carbon single bond or no bond.

Uses of alpha methyl styrene dimers in perfumery processes and products

Described are the compounds 1-(2-propenyl-3-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)-.DELTA..sup.3 -cyclohexene-1-carboxaldehyde and 1-(2-propenyl)-4-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)-.DELTA..sup.3 -cyclohexene-1-carboxaldehyde; and a process for preparing same by means of reacting an allylic halide with a mixture of 3 and 4-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)-.DELTA..sup.3 -cyclohexene-1-carboxaldehyde using a phase transfer agent in a two phase system according to the reaction: ##STR1## wherein the carboxaldehyde moiety is bonded to the alpha-carbon atom or the beta-carbon atom, X is chloro or bromo and M is alkali metal, processes for adding such 1-(2-propenyl)-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)-.DELTA..sup.3 -cyclohexene-1-carboxaldehydes to consumable materials whereby:
