An electric field (e-field) touchscreen is described. A continuous stream of digital signal data that represents e-field signal deviations is received from multiple receive electrodes. The stream of digital signal data is processed using a machine learning model to determine a touch event and a location on a display screen of the touchscreen. The touch event is processed. The e-field touchscreen may determine whether a non-normal event may be occurring causing noise in the digital signal data. If so, the received stream of digital signal data is processed through a low-pass filter and processed through an absolute value average baseline filter. A difference between the filtered data is determined to generate a filtered stream of digital signal data and is processed using the machine learning model determine a touch event and a location on a display screen of the touch event. The touch event is processed.

Electric field touchscreen

Described are devices for automatically adapting electrical polarity from a power source to a specified output polarity for use by an electrical load. In one implementation, power adaptation circuitry comprising one or more bridge circuits accept electrical power of unspecified polarity and output specified polarity. The bridge circuit may comprise a plurality of field-effect transistors (FETs) configured such that a particular subset of the FETs are energized to conduct electric current to the outputs when a particular polarity is applied at inputs.

An apparatus and method are provided for determining the donned or doffed state of a headset. In one example, a headset includes a processor, an acoustic transducer, and a detector operably coupled to the processor, the detector providing an output charge pattern corresponding to a state selected from the group consisting of the headset being donned and doffed. Advantageously, the present disclosure provides for reliably determining a donned or doffed state of a headset for efficiently routing calls, text messages, and/or otherwise being used for notifications and requests in a system.

An acoustic signal level limiter provides a telephone handset/headset user with protection against loud audible signals generated within a communications system. The acoustic signal limiter comprises an acoustic signal level attenuation circuit and at least one acoustic signal level relay circuit. Once activated, the acoustic signal level attenuation circuit creates an attenuation network that attenuates an electrical acoustic signal transmitted through the communications system. Additional acoustic signal level relay circuits are activated to further attenuate the electrical acoustical signal to prevent the acoustic signal level attenuation circuit from operating in a deep saturation mode and provide further hearing safety for the telephone headset/handset user. A fuse in series and 'Zener Zap' shunting transistor diodes may provide additional failsafe protection.

Systems and methods for variably and/or shiftably limiting signal output are disclosed. The system may include an attenuation circuit having an attenuation network activated by a source signal crossing a threshold to attenuate the source signal and a resistive element such as resistors bridging between the attenuation circuit input and output for variably attenuating the source signal. The attenuation circuit may be activated by a switch such as transistors. To shift the limiting threshold, the system may include a circuit to shift the activating threshold, the circuit having a control voltage source such as DC voltage source coupled to the attenuation network. The threshold shifting circuit may be configured to selectively increase the threshold during music listening and to be inactive during voice applications. The system may be incorporated in a headset adapter or a headset receiver.

Variable and shiftable acoustic output signal limiter

A method of enhancing the intelligibility of speech sounds in a communications headset, includes: detecting an incoming signal with speech content; based upon detectable parameters in the incoming signal, determining a combination of signal processing parameters including a high pass cutoff frequency value and a low pass cutoff frequency value for a filtering function, and an expander threshold level, an expander attack time, and an expander release time for an expander function; and sequentially applying the filtering function and expander function to the incoming signal so that the degraded sound quality of the incoming signal may be modified real-time to increase intelligibility as variations occur in speech sound quality of the incoming signal.

Intelligibility control for speech communications systems

A headset having a built-in memory to store parameter settings relating to headset performance characteristics such as headphone(s) and/or microphone performance characteristics. The performance characteristics can be measured during headset production and stored in the memory. A host adapter may communicate with the headset through a serial communications port of the headset. The host adapter may read the headset performance characteristics and adjust signals transmitted to and received from the headset in accordance thereto. When the headset is used in a system, the system parameters can be manually set and stored in the headset memory. When the headset is used again in the same system, the system parameters can be read from the memory and automatically set. The memory may also store product history information of the headset such as production date, serial and model numbers, and/or any service history.

The present invention provides an echo reduction apparatus, system, and method that advantageously reduces echo when communicating over packet-switched networks. An echo reduction apparatus, including echo reduction circuit, operably couples a headset or handset device to an audio source that is capable of transmitting a sound signal. The echo reduction circuit receives the sound signal from the audio source and a transmit signal from the headset or handset device and provides an adjusted sound signal to the audio source. Advantageously, a variety of headsets and handsets may be used in accordance with the present invention with reduced caller echo and without the need to purchase new headsets or handsets.

An adaptive transmit amplifier for automatically adjusting the transmit output characteristics of a headset adapter output stage includes a detector adapted to detect a value of a bias current in a host microphone transmit circuit. The adaptive transmit amplifier further includes a switching stage coupled to the detector and adapted to select a gain level and impedance level of the headset adapter output stage based upon the bias current value. The adaptive transmit amplifier may further include a logic/timing block coupled to the detector and to the switching stage. The logic/timing block is adapted to control a sequence of detection of the bias current and selection of the gain level and impedance level of the headset adapter output stage. A method of automatically selecting the output characteristics of a headset adapter output stage includes detecting a value of a bias current in a host microphone transmit circuit, and selecting a gain level and impedance level of the headset adapter output stage in response to the value of the bias current.
