Fire suppression biodegradable suspension forming compositions

A filter material for entrapping particles and actively affecting the trapped particles within the filter. The fabric has a blend of hydrophilic superabsorbent fibers and non-superabsorbent hydrophilic fibers that is sufficiently porous as to allow gaseous flow through the fabric. The fabric having a thickness and the fabric has as a coating of a mixture of a chemically or physically active compound and a liquid carrier forming an active composition on both the outer surface of the hydrophilic superabsorbent fibers, and the hydrophilic superabsorbent fibers have a central volume also retaining the active composition. The central volume of the hydrophilic superabsorbent fibers acting as a reservoir for replacement of the active compound into the coating when concentration of active compounds in the coating are reduced to a concentration less than concentrations of the active compound within the central volume; and the liquid carrier is an aqueous liquid.

An apparel or material which may be placed anywhere or worn about the neck or other parts of the body of a human. The apparel/material has a structure that, when repositioned from about the wearer, will retain a position about a mouth and nose of the human, as by elasticity or taughtness of a wrapping about the face. The apparel is sufficiently porous as to allow a human to breath comfortably through the fabric when placed over the mouth and nose of the human. Specific composite materials described herein are based on the discovery that certain selections of materials and manufacturing conditions and processes provide unexpectedly improved self-supporting thin-film composite materials. It has been discovered that certain combinations of backing materials, shrink film materials, and manufacturing conditions provide improved composites having highly controllable, readily repeatable, and stable arc shaped cross-web curled structures. In general, the composite materials described herein comprise a dimensionally alterable film such as a polyester shrink film having a first surface and a second surface, and a polyester backing material having a first surface and a second surface, wherein the second surface of the backing material is laminated to the first surface of the dimensionally alterable film. Upon activation of the alterable film, for example upon exposing the composite material comprising the polyester heat shrink film to heat, the composite material can be imparted with an arc shaped cross-web curled structure along it longitudinal width, resulting in resistance to bending in its axial length, and a self-supporting material.

A self-supporting extendable material, such as tape used for sealing, tape for adhering two surfaces together. More specifically, coated extendable self-supporting materials such as adhesive tapes, papers, and adhesive sheets may be used in the manufacture of adhesive tapes and papers, wherein a length of tape or other material extends rigidly a certain distance and does not coil or curl onto itself, or curl or coil prematurely onto the receiving substrate. A fire suppression non-aqueous liquid concentrate includes starch, a pseudo-plastic, high yield, suspending agent, a Cparaffin or a Colefin, a non-ionic surfactant, and an alcohol amine neutralizer. The non-aqueous liquid concentrate forms a dilute dispersion when added to water. The dilute dispersion clings to a surface, and forms an intumescent char coating upon fire contact.

The invention relates to compositions that prevent expansion of a fire, suppress existing fire, as well as methods of preparing and using such compositions. The composition is comprised of water, pseudo-plastic high yield suspending agent and starch. Compositions may contain additional functional agents, such as rheological, wetting, foaming, coloring, chelating, antimicrobial and stabilizing agents. In the description of the present invention, all composition modifications are referred to as compositions. The composition, an augmentation of water, exhibits the characteristics of a sag resistant aqueous gel in the tank, but has shear thinning capacity, allowing the composition to be pumped or sprayed as easily as water. At the point of impact, when the sprayed composition is again at rest, it instantly reverts to a sag resistant aqueous gel. The composition also forms an intumescent, surface char layer upon contacting a fire. Foaming of the augmented composition on impact can be incorporated, which is advantageous for fighting petroleum fires.

Composition inhibiting the expansion of fire, suppressing existing fire, and methods of manufacture and use thereof

A contact lens blocking composition with desirable melt properties can comprise a water soluble polymer such as a polyalkylpolyimine combined with an absorbent disintegrant or with a filler such as a highly soluble salt composition or both. The blocking composition can be readily removed from a shaped contact lens after machining and from the mandrel or other tool used in shaping the lens. The blocking composition is readily removed using an aqueous wash, aqueous washing solutions or ultrasonic cleaning procedures.
