A multi-function sensor system comprises a dual-axis electromagnetic speed sensor and a depth transducer to enable various underwater or marine measurements to be achieved in a single unit thus reducing the space required on a vessel and the cost of having such multiple functions.

Dual-axis electromagnetic speed sensor with depth

A precipitation sensor including a cantilevered sensor member having a cantilevered portion and an upper and a lower surface extending on opposite sides of the cantilevered portion. The sensor member can receive falling precipitation on the upper surface and vibrate when struck by such precipitation. The cantilevered portion can have outer perimeter edges that are sloped downwardly for shedding the precipitation off the cantilevered portion. An electromechanical sensor can be incorporated with at least a part of the cantilevered portion of the sensor member for sensing the vibrations of the sensor member caused by the precipitation, and generating an electrical response from which precipitation properties can be determined. A support structure can be connected to the lower surface of the cantilevered portion at about a central region of the sensor member for supporting the sensor member. The cantilevered portion extends outwardly beyond the support structure.

Precipitation sensor

A transducer assembly including a fan beam transducer having a beam generation axis for generating a fan shaped acoustic beam along the beam generation axis. The fan shaped acoustic beam can have a generally elliptical cross sectional shape with a major axis and a minor axis across a plane generally perpendicular to the beam generation axis. The transducer can be housed in a housing and have a direction of travel axis. The fan shaped acoustic beam can be rotatable relative to the direction of travel axis. The housing can have a release locking arrangement for rotationally releasing and locking the position of the fan shaped acoustic beam for orienting at least one of the major axis and minor axis of the fan shaped acoustic beam at a desired position relative to the direction of travel axis.

Fan beam transducer assembly

An underwater camera assembly including a through hull housing having a passage extending therethrough. A flexible camera insert is positioned within the passage of the through hull housing and has a first end with a viewing window secured thereto, and a first sealing region for sealing the passage in a water tight manner.

Underwater camera assembly

A marine sensor device mounts in a single opening in a hull of a marine vessel. The sensor includes a housing secured in the opening. Positioned within the housing is a body containing at least two sensors. The body is removable from the housing. A magnetized paddlewheel can be disposed in a first cavity formed on a first half of the body, the paddlewheel has a plurality of paddles extending from a circular central hub and rotatably mounted on an axle extending transverse a fore and aft direction of travel of the vessel. A magnetic sensor can be located adjacent the paddles, the magnetic sensor senses the rotation of the paddles and provides speed indications. The magnetic sensor can be a Hall-effect device. A sonic transducer for depth detection can be disposed within a second cavity formed on a second half of the body. A thermal sensor for sensing water temperature can be disposed in a well formed in the body.

Multi-functional marine sensing instrument

A transducer assembly for mounting to an interior surface of a hull includes a base for securing the assembly to the interior surface of the hull. A mounting member for mounting to the base is rotatably positionable relative to the base about a rotational axis. A transducer element is secured to the mounting member for generating soundwaves that travel in an acute angular direction relative to the rotational axis. Rotation of the mounting member relative to the base about the rotational axis changes the direction of travel of the soundwaves. A retaining device locks the mounting member in place relative to the base.

A marine sensor mounting mechanism having a tubular sleeve in the hull of a boat; valve means mounted for pivotal movement in the sleeve from an open position when a sensor is in place to a closed position when the sensor is removed.
