Shear tools are described that are driven by a power assembly. In one version, the shear tools include a pivotally movable pair of lever arms. Upon activation of the power tool, the lever arms of the shear tool are pivotally displaced and urge a die along a shearing plane relative to another stationary die retained by the shear tool. In another version, the shear tools include a carriage and link assembly. Upon engagement and activation with a power assembly or power tool, a movable die is urged past a stationary die. Also described are systems and related methods utilizing the shear tools which enable convenient shearing or severing of workpieces such as strut channel.

Tool heads for shearing operations

A punch tool for forming holes or apertures in workpieces. The tool includes a primary cylinder containing a movable ram and a secondary cylinder containing another movable ram. The primary and secondary cylinders are in hydraulic communication with each other. The primary cylinder is releasably engageable with a powered press tool and various dies or punches can be attached at the secondary cylinder. Systems of powered tools and the punch tools, and methods of forming holes in workpieces using the punch tools.

Press tools and particularly crimp tools having a C-frame tool head are described which are configured such that upon a typical use load, the C-frame head deflects to a position in which mating components or surfaces are aligned. Also described are C-frame heads that utilize a particular deflection compensating engagement connection between a piston and a ram die holder. In addition, various methods of compensating for deflection are described. The use of such configurations, engagement connections, and methods enables such tools to be formed from lighter weight materials and/or to incorporate weight optimization designs.

A hand-held hydraulic assembly includes a work tool having a hydraulic cylinder or main body, a ram piston disposed in the hydraulic main body and a spring or other biasing member mounted on the ram piston. An interchangeable work head is selectively engaged to the ram piston of the work tool. The ram piston is axially displaceable in the main body for actuating the work head. A quick release coupling mounted to the work tool releasably connects the interchangeable work head to the work tool.

A tool having a selectively positionable latch which governs access to an interior working region of the tool is described. The latch is selectively positionable between a closed position and an open position. For tools having multiple indenters for performing crimping operations, the latch can also include an indenter.

Various systems, tools, and methods are described for rendering regions of coated pipe suitable for receiving press fittings. The systems, tools, and methods may also be applicable for transforming regions of pipe, coated or uncoated, and which are otherwise unsuitable for sealingly engaging press fittings, so that reliable and leak-proof seals can be made between the pipe and press fittings.

Preparation tools for pipe ends and related methods

A tool for crimping at least two members together and confirming that the crimp is acceptable. The tool includes a pair of opposed clamping jaws. Each of the clamping jaws has a crimping surface that contacts at least one of the members when crimping the members together. The tool also includes a pair of opposed arms that move the crimping surfaces of the opposed clamping jaws toward one another to define a crimping position and away from one another to define a release position. The tool also includes a gauge that defines a first size determining member that allows receipt of the members crimped together and a second size determining member that rejects receipt of the members crimped together.

A tool support for mounting a working tool on a pipe comprises a base having inverted V-shaped saddle portions engaging the pipe and a clamping chain extending between opposite sides of the base for clamping the base on a pipe. A first end of the chain is mounted on one side of the base by a biasing spring arrangement which provides for limited displacement of the end in the direction of tensioning of the chain, and the free end of the chain is adapted to be releasably interengaged with an adjusting mechanism on the opposite side of the base and by which the chain is tensioned to clamp the base against a pipe. A pipe drilling tool is removably mounted on the base and includes a handle by which the tool can be carried and supported during mounting on and dismounting from the base and by which the base and tool can be carried as a unit.
