Methods and systems for managing storage shares in a virtual environment having a plurality of virtual machines are provided. The system includes a storage system for managing storage space for the storage shares and generating a quota report. The quota report shows an assigned quota for each storage share and actual storage used by each storage share. The assigned quota indicates an amount of designated storage space for each storage share. The system also includes a storage provider for obtaining the quota report from the storage system and filtering the quota report based on storage shares that are managed by the storage provider. The storage provider modifies a quota for a storage share based on a client request and notifies the storage system of the modification.

Method and system for presenting and managing storage shares

Method and system for providing information regarding a plurality of storage devices managed by a plurality of storage servers are provided. The storage space at the storage devices is presented to a plurality of computing systems as logical storage space. A plurality of searchable data structures having a plurality of data object types are stored at a temporary memory storage device of a management console that interfaces with the plurality of computing systems and the storage servers. Each data object type stores information regarding the storage device. The searchable data structure includes information regarding the storage devices and the logical storage space presented to the computing systems. A lock data structure for tracking locks that are assigned for accessing information pertaining to a storage server and a data object type is maintained to prevent unauthorized access to at least one of the searchable data structures.

Method and system for responding to client requests for information maintained by storage systems

Certain tasks are outsourced from a filer to a remote policy engine. The policy engine implements various defined policies to control the filer's servicing of client requests. For example, the policy engine can be used to implement policies to control various storage-related operations relating to data managed by a filer, such as creation, deletion, modification, opening, closing, renaming and/or changing attributes of files or directories managed by the filer.

A method for operating a data processing system to compress a first frame in an ordered sequence of image frames. A second frame precedes the first frame in the sequence of frames, and the second frame is preceded by a third frame in the sequence of frames. Each frame is divided into a plurality of processing blocks. The method first determines a displacement vector for at least one block in the second frame. The displacement vector identifies a region in the third frame that is an approximation of the block in the second frame. The displacement vectors in the second frame and measured vectors in the first frame are then used to determine an approximation for a displacement vector associated with one of the blocks in the first frame. This approximation is then used to define a search region in a frame preceding the first frame. The search region includes a plurality of sub-regions, each of the sub-regions having the same size as that block. The search region is then searched for the sub-region that best approximates the corresponding block in the first frame. In one embodiment of the present invention, the approximation to the displacement vector in the first frame is determined by forming a weighted sum of displacement vectors determined for the preceding frames. The coefficients of the weighted sums are determined by fitting the observed displacement vectors for a number of frames in the sequence.
