This document relates to compilation of source code into services. One example method involves receiving input source code, identifying data dependencies in the input source code, and identifying immutability points in the input source code based at least on the data dependencies. The example method also involves converting at least some of the input source code occurring after the immutability points to one or more service modules.

Compilation and execution of source code as services

The technology described herein provides for identifying matching documents for a search query using a bit vector search index. When a search query is received, a term is identified from the search index, and a number of bit vectors corresponding to the term are identified. Each bit vector comprises an array of bits in which at least one bit in each bit vector indicates that a corresponding document includes the term. Each bit vector also includes other bits indicating other documents include other terms. A determination is made that an unacceptable number of possible matching documents is likely to be returned. In response to the determination, a strengthening row bit vector is selected to reduce the number of possible matching documents. The identified bit vectors and the selected strengthening row are intersected to identify matching documents that contain the term.

Reducing matching documents for a search query

This document relates to orchestration and scheduling of services. One example method involves obtaining dependency information for an application. The dependency information can represent data dependencies between individual services of the application. The example method can also involve identifying runtime characteristics of the individual services and performing automated orchestration of the individual services into one or more application processes based at least on the dependency information and the runtime characteristics.

Technologies are described herein for denormalizing data instances. Schemas for data instances are embedded with annotations indicating how the denormalization is to be performed. Based on the annotations, one or more sub per object indexes ('sub POIs') can be generated for each data instance and stored. The sub POIs can include a target sub POI containing data from the data instance, and at least one source sub POI containing data from another data instance, if the data instance depends on the other data instance. Data instance updates can be performed by identifying sub POIs that are related to the updated data instance in storage, and updating the related sub POIs according to the update to the data instance. The sub POIs can be sent to an indexing engine to generate an index for a search engine to facilitate searches on the data instances.

In response to a call to reclaim memory storing a group of objects allocated in an arena, an object not in use of the group of objects allocated in the arena is collected. A live object of the plurality of objects is copied from the arena to a heap.

A technique is described herein that intelligently deploys resources in a data center for a new program. The new program has, at least in part, unknown runtime characteristics. The technique involves collecting plural input factors that provide evidence of an expected runtime behavior of the new program. It does so by identifying at least one related program that differs from the new program, but has a specified degree of relatedness to the new program. The collecting operation then obtains information that describes an amount of resources that the related program(s) consume when run. Based on at least some of the plural input factors, the technique generates an estimated amount of resources that the new program is expected to consume when it is run. The technique then determines and deploys a configuration of resources in the data center that will provide the estimated amount of resources.

The technology described herein provides for a match fix-up stage that removes matching documents identified for a search query that don't actually contain terms from the search query. A representation of each document (e.g., a forward index storing a list of terms for each document) is used to identify valid matching documents (i.e., documents containing terms from the search query) and invalid matching documents (i.e., documents that don't contain terms from the search query). Any invalid matching documents are removed from further processing and ranking for the search query.

A plant treatment system configured to provide improved growth for hydroponically grown plants. The plant treatment system includes an air treatment apparatus that is configured to provide temperature controlled and sterilized air to the root ball of a plant. The air treatment apparatus includes an air pump operable to draw air in from the surroundings and move through the air treatment apparatus. The air treatment apparatus includes an air ionizer and a dehumidifier wherein the air from the air pump passes through both. A temperature control unit provides the ability to control the temperature of the air as the air exits the air treatment apparatus. The air treatment apparatus further includes an oxygen concentrator that is operable to provide an air flow exiting from the air treatment apparatus that has a higher oxygen concentration. A dosing unit to deliver liquid nutrients is further included.

The technology described herein provides for preliminary ranking of matching documents for a search query. A preliminary ranker uses score tables for scoring each matching document based on its relevant to a search query. The score table for a document stores pre-computed data used to derive a frequency of terms and other information in the document. The preliminary ranker uses the score table for each matching document and the terms from the search query to determine a score for each matching document. The lowest scoring documents are removed from further consideration by a final ranker.

A technique is described herein for updating a running application that includes a plurality of program modules (e.g., services). The technique performs its updating operation without having to suspend the execution of the running application, and without reloading all of the program modules in the running application. The technique leverages a mapping component to map a calling program module's call to a function to a called program module that implements the function. A current application manifest provides mapping logic for use by the mapping component. In some examples, the technique also transforms data passed by the calling program module to conform to a data format expected by the called program module. This is appropriate when the calling program module and the called program module use different schemas to define the data.

A digital work may be annotated using an eBook reader device. Upon receiving an annotation relating to a specific portion of the digital work, an invariant location reference identifier corresponding to the specified portion of the digital work may be appended to the annotation. The annotation may then be stored in association with the digital work for later reference. In some instances, an annotation may be presented on an eBook reader device upon receipt of a valid authorization credential granting access to the annotation.

The technology described herein provides for indexing information in a bit vector search index. The bit vector search index comprises a data structure for indexing data about terms from a corpus of documents. The data structure includes a number of bit vectors. Each bit vector comprises an array of bits and corresponds to a different set of terms. Bits in the bit vector are used to represent whether at least one document corresponding to the bit includes at least one term from the set of terms corresponding to the bit vector. The bit vector search index is stored by first indexing information about documents using bit vectors on a first accumulation buffer storage device. When a threshold is satisfied, the information is transferred to bit vectors on a subsequent storage device.
