A device for the collection of water from a granular material bed filter includes means for injecting water and air through the filtration bed as well as an outer chute provided with a weir for the discharge of water, characterized in that it is made of a storage capacity placed between the filter and the discharge chute and defined by a vertical perforated wall such as a grid situated in vertical alignment with the filter vertical wall, and a plane slanting inwardly to the inside of the filter, said slanting plane connecting the weir for the discharge of the water via the chute to the filter wall situated below the vertical perforated wall such as the grid.

Device for the collection of water in a granular material bed filter

An apparatus for the rapid in-line mixing of an additive fluid with a primary fluid includes a conduit for passing therethrough in a direction of flow a primary fluid. A nozzle is positioned within the conduit and has an outlet. A pipe supplies an additive fluid to the nozzle, such that the additive fluid is injected through the outlet of the nozzle into the primary fluid. The nozzle has extending outwardly therefrom a member to cause the additive fluid to diffuse rapidly outwardly from the outlet in a generally radially oriented fluid current and thereby for mixing with the primary fluid within a zone occupying a limited length of the conduit, measured in the direction of flow from the outlet of the nozzle.

Apparatus for the rapid in-line mixing of two fluids

A submerged filter includes filtering matter in the form of a granular material contained in a vat having a floor for supporting the granular material. The liquid to be treated flows from the bottom to top and is brought into contact with a gas serving for the treatment of the liquid and circulating in the same direction. The filtering material is washed with water and air. The liquid to be treated, the treating gas, and the wash fluids are introduced into the filtering mass through the floor by means of nozzles which extend through the floor. Some of the nozzles essentially serve for introducing the treating gas, while others serve for introducing the liquid to be treated and the fluids for washing the filtering material.

An apparatus for the treatment of water to remove colloidal and suspended matter therefrom includes a reaction tank for receiving water to be treated and for forming sludge of flocculated or crystalline precipitated matter contained in the water. A concentrating tank receives the water and sludge from the reaction tank, removes sludge and matter from the water, and concentrates the sludge. A lamella settling tank receives from the concentrating tank the water and removes therefrom by settling remaining sludge and matter. A portion of the sludge from the concentrating tank prior to the maximum concentration thereof is recycled to the reaction tank.

Apparatus for treating water by flocculation and/or crystalline

A liquid filter device includes an upwardly open structure having a bottom and a floor positioned above the bottom, the bottom and the floor defining therebetween a chamber. A filter element comprising granular material is supported by the floor within the structure. Liquid to be treated passes downwardly through the granular material in contact with a gas passing upwardly through the granular material during a normal filtering and processing operation. During an operation for washing the granular material, water and gas pass upwardly through the granular material. A plurality of nozzles open into the granular material and have stems communicating with the chamber. The plurality of nozzles includes first nozzles having openings for, during the normal operation, passing liquid from the granular material into the chamber, and for, during the washing operation, distributing the water and gas from the chamber into the granular material. The plurality of nozzles further includes second nozzles having openings for, during the normal operation, distributing the gas from the chamber into the granular material, and for, during the washing operation, distributing the water and gas from the chamber into the granular material.

Liquid filter device

A device for the distribution of water to be treated into and for the recovery of washing liquid from a water treatment filter apparatus of the type including a tank containing therein a filter material includes a channel coupled to and extending along the length of the tank, the channel receiving therein water to be treated. The channel has an opening into the interior of the tank at a level above the filter material. The opening is defined at the lower portion thereof by an overflow over which the water to be treated flows from the channel to the tank. The overflow includes a first inclined plane inclined downwardly and away from the channel in a direction toward the tank and a second inclined plane inclined downwardly and toward the channel from the first inclined plane. The inclined planes extend into the tank and form a deflector structure to prevent any filter material from passing through the opening during backwashing of the filter material.

A filter has a vertically disposed housing, a support plate and vertical filter elements fixed at their upper ends to the support plate and supported thereby in the housing. A water outlet tube passes through the center of the support plate and exits at the base of the filter. The water outlet pipe is connected to the support plate in leak-tight manner and the portion of the filter located above the support plate is removable.

A single, integrally formed tank has an upper portion of a rectangular configuration and a lower portion of downwardly decreasing volume and defined by a plurality of exterior walls, at least two of which are inclined downwardly and inwardly toward each other. The interior of the tank is divided into three serially connected compartments by means of interior walls which are inclined in directions substantially parallel to one of the inclined exterior walls. The compartments thus formed are a first, neutralization and coagulation compartment, a second, flocculation compartment, and a third, lamellar decanting and sludge settling compartment. Within the flocculation compartment are arranged a plurality of spaced inclined plates defining upwardly inclined flow passages into which extend deflectors to create eddy currents in the water passing upwardly through the flocculation compartment. Within the decanting compartment are arranged a plurality of inclined hollow tubes which facilitate downward settling of sludge and upward movement of the decanted water.

A single enclosure includes a reaction zone and a decanting zone. Water to be treated is introduced into the bottom of the reaction zone. A pump turbulently mixes the water and sludge within a turbulent area of the reaction zone and passes the resultant mixture through a central passage at a rate several times higher than the rate at which the water is introduced into the reaction zone. A first portion of the mixture is recycled back into the turbulent area. A second portion of the mixture, including a relatively high concentration of sludge, is distributed to the bottom of the decanting zone, at a flow rate and at a pressure sufficient to ensure that the mixture of sludge and water will be distributed uniformly throughout the entire area of the lower portion of the decanting zone. The purified water passes upwardly through the decanting zone and is collected. The sludge settles downwardly to the bottom of the decanting zone and is returned to the turbulent area of the reaction zone.
