Disclosed herein are a number of example embodiments where a proxy node is used in a wireless network to expand the functionality of one or more wireless nodes on the network. The proxy node can include a circuit whose function is made available to an associated wireless node in the wireless network via proxy. The wireless nodes and one or more such proxy nodes can be arranged in a wirelessly connected environment to support a variety of remote management operations, including location tracking, status monitoring, and remote control. In an example embodiment, the wireless nodes can be deployed in a retail store and provide remote management and control over any combination of product display assemblies, locks, power strips, display shelves, display hooks, and other node types.

Proxy nodes for expanding the functionality of nodes in a wirelessly connected environment

Methods and systems that selectively controls whether a battery is electronically connected to or disconnected from operational circuitry of an electronic device are described. The switching circuitry electronically connects the battery with operational circuitry in response to external electric power being available to the operational circuitry, thereby allowing the battery to be available as a backup source of electrical power for the operational circuitry when external electric power is lost. Methods and systems also electronically disconnect the battery from the operational circuitry in response to a loss of external electric power to the operational circuitry. As a result, undesirable battery drainage is avoided if the device is left in storage or is not being used for an extended period of time.

An electronic device may interface directly with the base position assembly or via an intermediary assembly. This disclosure is directed to product displays systems. In one aspect, a product display system includes three or more bases spatially distributed in a space. Each base has a wireless transceiver. The system includes a product display assembly comprising a puck assembly and a base assembly. The puck assembly has a surface on which a product is mountable for merchandising of the product to a customer and is untethered to the base assembly. The puck assembly executes machine-readable instructions that determines a coordinate location of the puck assembly within the space based on wireless communications between the puck assembly and the three or more bases. The puck assembly may also generate an alarm sound when the coordinate location is located within an alarm zone or a warning zone of the space.

Subject matter disclosed herein may generally relate to docking systems, and more particularly, to docking systems for portable computing devices such as, for example, tablet computing devices. The docking system may include (1) an enclosure for the portable computing device and (2) a base, where the enclosure can be docked to the base. A communication channel can be established between the portable computing device and the base via the enclosure and an electrical connection that exists when the enclosure is docked with the base. Through the communication channel, data such as credential data can be passed from the portable computing device to the base. The base can control whether the enclosure is permitted to be undocked from the base based on this credential data.

According to an example embodiment, a manager security fob and another security fob that is to be authorized for use in controlling the security status of a product display assembly can interact with a system in accordance with a defined sequence to add the another security fob to an authorization list for the product display assembly. For example, the defined sequence can be a connection of the manager security fob with the system, followed by a disconnection of the manager security fob from the system, followed a connection of the another security fob with the system within a defined window.
