System and method for improving the performance, safety, and energy efficiency of a cooking appliance with one or more heating elements operably connected with a burner controller controlling an amount of energy flowing to the one or more heating elements. First, a user or a system controller establishes one or more reference levels. The system controller is operably associated with one or more sensors, which measures levels of one or more emissions generated in the operation of the cooking appliance. Afterwards, the system controller compares the measured levels of the one or more emissions with the reference levels and in response to the measured levels of the emissions exceeding reference levels, sends an activation control signal to the cooking appliance. Then, an energy control mechanism associated with the burner controller adjusts the amount of energy flowing to the heating elements in response to the activation control signal.

An improved control system for a range hood that is capable of automatically responding to various air quality parameters including heat, smoke, carbon monoxide, humidity, and others. The system contains a number of features that, combining aspects of open-loop and closed loop control, manage the system dynamics for smoother operation, respond to both level and rate signals and compensate for background conditions and sensor variability by using relative values.

Intelligent ventilating safety range hood control system

A fault detection system for performing analog current analysis and diagnosis of power devices on digitally controlled buses. The fault detection system includes a field-installable bus interface having a current sensor on a ground return line. A bus controller connected to the bus interface then applies digital control signals and power to a system assembly via the bus interface such that individual power devices are selectively energized. A real time current profile of the selected power device over a selected period of time is determined. A fault determination network compares the real time current against a set of predetermined criteria and determines whether the selected power device is acceptable. The predetermined criteria beneficially includes information useful for determining degradation of the selected power device so that fault correction before failure is feasible.
