A microscope includes an image acquisition system, microscope components and a touch screen. The image acquisition system is configured to optically and digitally image an object so as to produce an object image The microscope components are at least one of motorized and electrically controllable. The touch screen is configured to display the object image in a display area thereof and to sense inputs in the display area within the displayed object image so as to change settings of the microscope components.

A diaphragm arrangement () for generating an oblique illumination in a microscope comprises a carrier element (), an iris diaphragm element () having a variable iris diaphragm opening (), a further diaphragm element () having a diaphragm opening () that, when it is in a first position relative to the carrier element (), covers a portion of the iris diaphragm opening () and is mounted rotatably around a first rotation axis (A), such that a rotation of the further diaphragm element () around the first rotation axis (A) changes that portion of the iris diaphragm opening () which is covered by the further diaphragm element (), and an actuation element () coupled to the further diaphragm element () via a coupling device () such that a rotation of the further diaphragm element () around the first rotation axis (A) is produced by an actuation of the actuation element ().

A microscope includes a light source including an LED device having a light radiating surface and a light directing element including a larger coupling-out surface. The light directing element is disposed so as to couple in light radiated by the light source and couple out the radiated light from the coupling-out surface. The light directing element is disposed so that the light is radiated out in an angular range of &#xb1;10&#xb0; to &#xb1;50&#xb0; and illuminates an area at 5 meters in an angular range of at least &#xb1;5&#xb0; with intensity fluctuations of less than 50%. A condenser is disposed between the coupling-out surface of the light directing element and the object to be viewed. The condenser has an aperture with an aperture dimension and is disposed such that the aperture is irradiated completely with the light coupled out from the coupling-out surface.
