A gasket retaining apparatus and a method which uses the apparatus to install a gasket between a pair of flanges. The retaining apparatus includes a gasket holding element which is temporarily secured between the flanges while joining the flanges together. A gasket groove is formed in the forward edge of the gasket holding element and one or more bolting slots extend into the body of the holding element from the forward edge. The gasket holding element preferably also includes a pair of retention holes so that a pair of releasable locking pins can be inserted through a pair of the bolt holes of one of the flanges and into the retention holes to temporarily secure the gasket holding element during the installation process.

A multistage compressor installation in which compression stages utilizing centrifugal compressors are independently driven by drivers that can be electric motors configured to be controlled by a speed controller. Intercoolers are located between stages to remove the heat of compression and the stages are connected such that outlets are located opposite to inlets of the compressors and conduits connecting the intercoolers to the stages are in an in-line relationship to inhibit the formation of pressure drops between stages. The conduits connecting the stages incorporate tapered transition sections configured such that flow velocity gradually decreases towards the intercooler and gradually increases from the intercooler to the next succeeding compression stage to further inhibit pressure drops.

A helical broadhead for an archery arrow may include a tapered ferrule having a tip end and an arrow end, and at least two helical blades which extend from the tip end to and towards the arrow end. The at least two helical blades may continuously helically curve from the tip end to the back side of the helical blades, and the helical blades may include a cutting edge. The broadhead may include a threaded shaft, and the helical blades may be a constant thickness. The helical blades may include a tapered cross-section, and the cutting edges may form a tip.

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for generating refrigeration in a process operating at sub-ambient temperatures in which the refrigeration is generated by a turboexpander. The turboexpander is coupled to a generator controlled so that its speed is maintained at a setpoint through electromagnetic braking and its power output is maintained at line matching voltage and frequency. The speed control of the generator therefore, also controls the speed of the turboexpander. The setpoint is calculated to be equal to a product of an operational efficiency parameter, U/C, and a square root of twice the enthalpy drop in the flow passing through the turboexpander divided by a product of pi and a diameter of an impeller employed within the turboexpander.

A compressor having a defined large diameter impeller having an integral shroud and having a three dimensional gas flow path defined by the impeller hub surface, blades and the shroud and having a large axially oriented inlet or inducer section with aggressive inducer blades, a defined outlet section geometry, and continuous blade geometries between the inlet and outlet sections.

A process fluid recycle system for compressor assemblies to recycle process fluid vapor flowing from one or more compressors to gear case(s) through shaft seal(s). The flowing process fluid is recycled back to the low pressure inlet of the compressor assembly by way of a recycle conduit. Coalescing filters are provided to separate oil mist from the process fluid vapor. Oil vapor and water vapor can also be removed, where necessary, by suitable oil and water vapor traps. During startup and shutdown or other times when low pressure transients occur that could cause a back flow of gear oil from the gear case into the compressor(s) by way of the shaft seal(s), an anti-back flow compressor is operated to ensure that the pressure within the gear case will be less than within the compressor.

Process fluid recycle system for a compressor assembly

A sealing system to prevent loss of a process fluid from a device having a device opening and a rotating member operable for rotational movement within the device opening. A rotary shaft seal such as a labyrinth seal, seals the rotating member in the device opening to inhibit leakage of process fluid. A chamber is connected to the device to recover leakage of the process fluid that leaks from the rotary shaft seal. A barrier seal is connected to the chamber to inject a barrier fluid under pressure to prevent the escape of process fluid from the chamber. The chamber discharges a mixture of barrier and process fluid to a filter, such as a coalescing filter, to separate the barrier fluid from the process fluid. Barrier fluid vapor and water vapor traps can also be used for purification purposes. The barrier fluid is recovered and recycled back to the barrier seal. The process fluid is returned to the device.

Sealing system

A support system useful to interconnect interstage components in a centrifugal compressor. The system allows controlled balancing of pressure induced forces while accommodating thermal expansion and contraction. In one preferred form a support ring is mounted about a scroll volute but supported through tie rods from a conduit concentrically aligned with the volute. A second support ring is mounted about the conduit, facing but spaced from the first ring, and supported from the volute. The support rings are respectively sealed to the volute and conduit through O-rings which allow sliding axial motion. A grooved peripheral pipe coupling seals the space between the support rings. The surface area of the support rings can be selectively chosen to direct and control pressure forces within the compressor system.

Compressor components support system

A high pressure heat exchanger assembly for a compressor having a shell and tube-type design. An elongated bundle assembly is received within the shell. The bundle assembly has a plurality of elongated tubes extending generally longitudinally through the shell. The tubes are securely affixed to fixed and floating tube sheet assemblies positioned at opposite ends of the shell. The fixed tube sheet assembly is securely attached to one end of the shell and the floating tube sheet assembly is allowed to float with respect to the other end of the shell. A seal between the floating tube sheet assembly and the end of the shell prevents the escape of internal fluids. Each tube sheet assembly is provided with an inner and outer tube sheet member separated by a plurality of spacers to create a vented space therebetween open to the outside atmosphere. The elongated tubes are sealingly press-fit within the inner and outer tube sheets of the fixed and floating tube sheet assemblies to provide a fixed connection therebetween. A plurality of spring devices are utilized to bias the floating tube sheet assembly towards the shell to counteract opposing internal shell pressure forces created within the shell assembly which may stress the press-fit tube-to-tube sheet connections.
