Example apparatus and methods concern multi-tier bandwidth-centric deduplication. One example apparatus supports inline bandwidth-centric deduplication with post-processing space-centric deduplication to improve inline bandwidth-centric deduplication and thereby reduce bandwidth requirements. One example method may include determining whether a bandwidth-centric deduplication device can satisfy a deduplication request associated with a data communication and then deciding whether to engage a space-centric deduplication device to co-operate in attempting to satisfy the request. More generally, the method includes controlling a first deduplication device to participate in bandwidth reduction and selectively controlling a second deduplication device to also participate in the bandwidth reduction.

Multi-tier bandwidth-centric deduplication

A method for routing input/output () data in a telecommunication system including a network node having a plurality of first integrated circuit (IC) cards, a plurality of second IC cards and a switching fabric, each second IC card connected to a corresponding first IC card in a respective slot of the network node xs described. The method involves receiving the IO data at an external port of any of the plurality of first or second IC cards. When packets of the IO data are received at an external port of a given second IC card, the given second IC card performs a packet classification of the packets to at least in part determine a destination for the packets. A further step of the method includes delivering the packets to a first or second IC card destination according to the packet classification performed by the given second IC card via a logical network layer existing on the first and second IC cards and the switching fabric. A particular implementation includes use in an Advanced Telecommunication Computing Architecture (ATCA) system.

Methods and systems for providing a logical network layer for delivery of input/output data

In a communications network, a cluster switch is provided, where the cluster switch has plural individual switches. An abstraction layer is provided in the cluster switch, such that an interface having a set of ports is provided to upper layer logic in the cluster switch. The set of ports includes a collection of ports of the individual switches. Control traffic and data traffic are communicated over virtual tunnels between individual switches of the cluster switch, where each virtual tunnel has an active channel and at least one standby channel.
