An apparatus for detecting a rollover event, which includes at least one acceleration sensor in the vertical direction of the vehicle and one acceleration sensor in the horizontal direction of the vehicle. A processor of the apparatus according to the invention will start a rollover algorithm in response to an inertial event, in order, as a function of the signal of the acceleration sensor in the vertical direction to detect the rollover event and as a function of it to trip restraint devices.

Apparatus for detecting a rollover event

A deployment decision for a vehicle restraint system is reached as a function of vehicle dynamics data, at least one vehicle transverse acceleration and one yaw rate about the longitudinal axis of the vehicle being linked to one another as the vehicle dynamics data to reach the deployment decision. The vehicle transverse acceleration is then additionally subjected to a threshold value decision for reaching the deployment decision, the threshold value being set as a function of the integrated vehicle transverse acceleration and the integrated yaw rate.

An apparatus for detecting a vehicle rollover includes a sensor suite for sensing vehicle dynamics data, the sensor suite being connected to a processor which is configured in such a way that the processor detects a vehicle rollover as a function of the vehicle dynamics data and the rollover sensor suite. The processor has means for dividing an operating state of the vehicle into chronologically successive phases. In particular, the processor has means for determining, for each phase, a float angle and a transverse vehicle velocity from the vehicle dynamics data; the float angle and the transverse vehicle velocity being used, together with the data from the rollover sensor suite, for detection of the vehicle rollover.

Device for recognizing a vehicle overturn

A method is provided for generating a triggering decision for a restraint system, in which method the triggering decision is generated as a function of a conjunction of the vehicle lateral acceleration and a rate of rotation. The vehicle lateral acceleration is additionally subjected to a threshold value decision, the respective threshold value being set as a function of at least one component of the velocity of the vehicle's center of gravity.

Method for generating a firing decision for a restraining system

A method for activating a passenger safety application in a vehicle involves a rotational acceleration sensor device which is used to obtain a measurement of the rotational acceleration &agr; of the vehicle, e.g., about an axis of rotation x parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The results of this measurement are analyzed by a computing unit for evaluating the vehicle situation with respect to its surrounding. Activation of a suitable safety application is performed in the event that the analysis indicates that a rollover event of the vehicle is imminent.
