An input/output (I/O) device includes a management controller interface, a plurality of network switching interfaces, a storage interface, a component controller interface, and a plurality of multifunction modules. The multifunction modules further include a processing node interface, a first endpoint coupled to the management controller interface, a second endpoint coupled to one of the plurality of network switching interfaces, a third endpoint coupled to a remote direct memory access (RDMA) block, a fourth endpoint coupled to the storage interface, and a fifth endpoint coupled to the component controller interface.

System and method for providing input/output functionality by an I/O complex switch

An information handling system includes a plurality of processors that each includes a cache memory, and a receive side scaling (RSS) indirection table with a plurality of pointers that each points to one of the processors. One or more network interface cards interface with the plurality of processors to receive information from a network. A hypervisor executes on one or more of the processors to support execution of virtual machines and coordinates information received at the network interface cards based upon an association between the information and virtual processors of the virtual machines, the virtual processors having identifiers.

An Ethernet device includes receive buffers and transmit buffers of a port, and a processor. The buffers are each associated with a respective class of service. The processor operates to determine a current buffer utilization in a receive buffer, determine that the current buffer utilization is different than a buffer threshold for the receive buffer, determine a data rate limit for the class of service associated with the receive buffer based upon the difference between the current buffer utilization and the buffer threshold, and send a data rate limit frame to another device coupled to the port. The data rate limit frame includes the data rate limit for the class of service.

IHS packet transfer systems and methods include a chassis housing a source IHS and a destination IHS. A component interconnect system in the chassis communicatively couples the source IHS and the destination IHS and includes a routing table that includes a destination IHS IP address of the destination IHS and a subnet associated with a component interconnect system domain. The routing table also includes a destination IHS memory address in the destination IHS, and a destination IHS port identifier for a port that is connected to the destination IHS. The component interconnect system provides a routing engine that receives, from the source IHS, a data packet that includes the destination IHS IP address and, in response, uses the routing table and the destination IHS IP address to retrieve the destination IHS memory address and the destination IHS port identifier for providing the data packet to the destination IHS.

An information handling system includes a plurality of processors that each includes a cache memory, and a receive side scaling (RSS) indirection table with a plurality of pointers that each points to one of the processors. A network data packet received by the information handling system determines a pointer to a first processor. In response to determining the pointer, information associated with the network data packet is transferred to the cache memory of the first processor. The information handling system also includes a process scheduler that moves a process associated with the network data packet from a second processor to the first processor, and an RSS module that directs the process scheduler to move the process and associates the first pointer with the processor in response to directing the process scheduler.

Method of handling network traffic through optimization of receive side scaling

A network switching device includes a macroflow sub-plane that performs packet-based routing in the network switching device and a microflow routing module that performs flow-based routing in the network switching device. The microflow routing module is separable from the network switching device and operates to provide a data packet via a software defined network agent to an SDN controller. The data packet is associated with a first unknown flow on the network switching device. The microflow routing module further operates to receive via the SDN agent a flow-based routing rule from the SDN controller and route the data packet based upon the flow-based routing rule.

A protocol processing system includes a plurality of communication interfaces. A control head-end is operable to receive a protocol processing engine identifier over a network through one of the communication interfaces from an external system. A plurality of optimized protocol processing engines are coupled to the control head-end, and the control head-end is operable to select a first optimized protocol processing engine from the plurality of optimized protocol processing engines that is identified by the protocol processing engine identifier. In response to being selected, the first optimized protocol processing engine handles communications between an application processing system and the external system. The first optimized protocol processing engine may be an optimized TCP/IP stack that receives operating system data through a first communication interface from the application processing system and sends network communication data over the network through the second communication interface to the external system.

An Information Handling System (IHS) may include a logic circuit and a memory having instructions that, upon execution, cause the IHS to: receive a WOA packet while the IHS is in a first power state, where the WOA packet identifies at least one of a software application or virtual server residing within the IHS; and, in response to having received the WOA packet, operate in a second power state and launch the software application or wake up the virtual server. A method may include originating, via a first IHS, a single WOA packet; and transmitting the single WOA packet over a network, where the single WOA packet is configured to cause a second IHS to switch operation from a first power state to a second power state, and to launch a software application or wake up a virtual server.

Methods and systems for improved pathway decision forwarding for rack domains include a gravity well forwarding protocol that enables local forwarding decisions at each network node involved with forwarding packets. The gravity well forwarding protocol may administer gravity well values for each of a plurality of rack domain nodes in a rack domain. The local forwarding decisions may involve selecting output ports corresponding to a higher/lower gravity well value at a network switching element, depending on a destination gravity well value associated with a network packet. Assignment of the gravity well values among the rack domain nodes may be used according to considerations, including security considerations, throughput considerations, loading considerations, redundancy considerations, physical location, and/or physical proximity, among other considerations, in the rack domain.
