An instrument head is provided for attachment to a plurality of instrument handles having different power profiles. The instrument head contains an illumination assembly including at least one LED as well as a drive circuit for detecting a power profile of an attached instrument handle and converting variable voltages received from the attached instrument handle to a constant current for powering the at least one LED based on the power profile. Accordingly, the instrument head enables use with a plurality of instrument handles, including those originally configured for use only with incandescent light sources.

Physical assessment device

A low-cost blood pressure cuff includes a bladder assembly comprised of a flexible inner layer of a first material and a flexible outer layer of a second material. The first and second materials are weldable to each other. A top sheet has a first portion that overlies the outer layer and a tail portion extending longitudinally from the first portion. The third portion is comprised of a third material that is not weldable to itself. A perimetric bladder weld joint joining the inner layer, the outer layer, and the top sheet to each other. An enhanced embodiment of the cuff includes a bottom sheet having at least a first portion which underlies the inner layer and which is comprised of a fourth material which is not weldable to itself. The bladder weld joint extends into the bottom sheet thereby joining the bottom sheet to at least the inner layer.

Economical, environmentally friendly, disposable blood pressure cuffs and method of manufacturing

A therapeutic wrap includes a flexible member configured to wrap around an affected area. Actuators are operably coupled to the flexible member. Each actuator is operable between a deployed state and a non-deployed state. A first coupling feature is disposed proximate a first edge on a first surface of the flexible member. A second coupling feature is disposed proximate a second edge on a second surface of the flexible member. The first coupling feature is configured to engage the second coupling feature when the flexible member is wrapped around the affected area and when the flexible member is slidably adjusted relative to the affected area. A retaining feature is coupled to at least one end of the flexible member and configured to retain the flexible member in a selected position on the affected area.

Health management system

A blood pressure cuff is defined by a first sheet, having an opening, and a second sheet. The second sheet is attached to a bottom of the first sheet to form an interior inflatable portion between the first sheet and the second sheet, with the opening of the first sheet fluidly interconnecting the interior inflatable portion with an exterior of the cuff. The blood pressure cuff is made from a single type of material and can be recycled, biodegradable, or composted.

A vaginal speculum apparatus includes a portable illumination assembly that is releasably attached to one of the upper blade and lower blade of a disposable vaginal speculum. The portable illumination assembly is defined by a housing that retains at least one LED and a portable power supply. The portable illumination assembly can be energized by an externally accessible member after the illuminator has been attached to the speculum.

Vaginal speculum apparatus

A medical device includes a handle portion downwardly extending from an examination portion. The handle portion has opposing upper and lower open ends and a through cavity extending therebetween. A blood pressure cuff includes a smaller patient bladder extending laterally across the cuff and longitudinally along a minor portion of second and fourth perimeter segments of the cuff. The cuff also includes a larger patient bladder extending laterally across the cuff and longitudinally along a major portion of the second and fourth perimeter segments of the cuff. The smaller patient bladder and the larger patient bladder are fluidically isolated from each other. A small patient port projects through the smaller patient bladder on a first side of the cuff. A large patient port projects through the larger patient bladder on a second side of the cuff which is transversely opposite the first side.

An otoscopic tip element having an axisymmetric hollow body having a substantially conical shape and made from a moldable plastic material includes a distal opening, a proximal opening, an interior surface, and an exterior surface. To maximize light transmissivity, a distal portion of the interior surface is provided with a smooth or polished surface finish and a proximal portion of the interior surface and the outer surface is provided with a textured surface finish such that light from a light source of an otoscope can be axially directed through the hollow body for emission through the distal opening, as well circumferentially through the exterior surface. The surface finish and color/tint of the speculum tip element can be adjusted or tuned to promote axial, circumferential and total light output relative to an intended medical target.
